Default rubber grips for 686+

I bought a 686+ gun & want to put some rubber grips on it. I like pachmayr but understand there is an issue w/the screw being obstructed by the main spring. I have seen this myself w/ a new 586 just a month ago , but grips were older so my question is have they fixed the issue w/the new ones? Or am I better off getting a set of hogues ? Any other options?...thoughts?...comments?

Thanks...Jay

My 686+ came with rubber grips. I bought some Grashorn Grips Elk Stag grips, but the RB profile turned me off, looked great, less purchase than the rubber Hogues that came from the factory. The Hogues fit my hands, and are much better profile than the RB grips.

Look at the Pachmayr Diamond Pro for round butt L frame. These are a more recent design which cover the backstrap and are very recoil absorbing. I have them on several K and N round butt with no mainspring interference problems.

Certain Pachmayr stock screws will interfere with mainspring movement; the only way to tell is to try them. If you are using them for carry my personal preference is the Compac, smallish and rounded with a covered backstrap.

Standard aftermarket K/L Hogues right side covers the sideplate, :

S&W supplied Hogues have a right side that is cut to display the TM and also has small S&W medallion sized tm's molded into the rubber :

You didn't mention barrel length of primary purpose of firearm. Grips are like opinions, everyone is entitled to their own. The aftermarket Hogues fit my hand well. I have the full size rubber round butt for both a 5" 686 TALO and a 6" 617. For my 3" 686 TALO, the Hogue ultra compact Bantam grips work well for CCW.

Several very good suggestions have already been made but let me add one more . . . Uncle Mike's grips. They are no longer made but show up on auction sites in one of three configurations . . . round butt, square butt, and round to square butt conversion grips.

Here is my square butt 686 but a round butt with the conversion grips will look identical from the outside. They are very comfortable and recoil absorbing.

Russ

edit to add: Uncle Mike's were later made by Butler Creek but are also discontinued

Many 686's are delivered with those Hogue grips.
I detest them as their huge finger grooves don't fit my hands.
S&W make a rubber K/L RD grip that is much more forgiving as to fit. And, for my hands, much more comfortable.
Part number is: 413860000.
Here's a set on my Model 69:

Can often find these on eBay for $20ish.

I'm a big fan of Hogue Bantams on K/L snubbies. This is a 686P 2-1/2":

Hogue finger groove grips fit my large hands nicely, but they are not for everyone. Hogue does make a version without grooves.

I believe those were designed by Craig Spegel and licensed to Uncle Mike's and Butler Creek. I bought some on E-bay for far more than their original MSRP. They were great grips, I wish someone would find a way to put them back into production.
