There is a revolver at my LGS tagged as 48-4 in 22 win mag with a $750 price tag.

Nice looking, but expensive as I see it.

Not sure if it helps but I bought a 48-4 with 4" barrel for $500 a few months back at a local gunshop. Almost prefect except for some mysterious marks on one side of the barrel that looked like imprints of a sock.

It would be a fair price for a nice one with box and contents, and very fair with the extra .22 LR cylinder or an 8 3/8" barrel. I'd want the muzzle blast as far away from my head as possible.

Depends on if you want one. In my area this is on the low side. These and anything S&W 45 is had to come by.

You think that's bad, you haven't seen the prices on 648's.

Believe the poster above who commented "if you want one". Its not a bad gun by any stretch of the imagination. There are 2 drawbacks that might not be instantly obvious. First is the muzzle blast as mentioned. It'l go right through a cheap set of ear muffs. And then you have the issue of ammo. Its gone from expensive to unobtainable and expensive. At the last show I was seeing it for $19 a box of 50. There was 9mm for half that. And you can reload the 9mm.

I bought my 48-4 about 10 years ago. It is in flawless condition. I paid $500 for it back then. Muzzle blast is not a problem because you wear hearing protection.

I purchased one because it was a beautiful K frame but soon found out I could not shoot it worth a darn.

Not only could I not shoot it well but ammo is expensive and can be a problem due to sticking cases. Had to clean chambers and under the star frequently to continue shooting.

When it is all said and done I would never buy another .22 magnum revolver.

I do have a Single Six and it is a joy to shoot either .22 or .22 magnum when I'm feeling rich.

For the pure joy of shooting a .22 revolver try to find a S&W model 34.

I sold my 48 and have no regrets.

I carried a model 48-4 many miles in a Jeep while hunting in South Texas. I loaded it with 3 snake shot and 3 hollow points. I liked that you could open the cylinder and select with ammo to use. Very effective on snakes, hogs and coyotes.
