Question M65-3 Price Check

Ran across a 3", RB yesterday. It's been Magna-ported, the front sight has been modified by milling a trough in it and adding some kind of small bead or dot. Hammer is bobbed, might be a factory hammer. It's wearing Pachmeyers and though it checks out ok it's not as tight as I'd like. Finish is probably good at best but it is stainless so I can work with that. I'm thinking $400 on a good day but maybe not?

Default Modifications

Generally, it is considered difficult to recover the cost of custom work such as the Magnaporting. If you can indeed grab that Model 65 for $400.00, I would consider that a steal. There are many threads on the Model 65-3" and in my opinion, this model perfectly fills that gap between too much and not enough.

However, I don't think this gun needs Magnaporting and you can expect increased muzzle blast because of it.

You lost me at Magna-ported, as for me, I'd pass.

The asking price is $700. The seller might take a bit less. I thought I was being generous thinking it might be worth $400.

Yeah, I'm not a fan either but if the price were right I can learn to live with almost anything.

It depends on whether you see the modifications as a positive (something you'd pay to have done or like) or a negative. Even if the former, I think $700 is still optimistic.

It's all a preference thing.

Personally, the Magna-porting, front sight mod and bobbed hammer, especially on that model just leave me cold.

In addition, it's wearing Pachs and isn't tight.

I have a pristine example of a 65-3 that I picked up for $550 if I remember correctly.

No way I'd do 700 bucks for the one you describe.

I agree with you on the $400 being generous. If I wanted that gun, that would be my ceiling.

I strongly dislike Magna-Porting, but could learn to live with it. Could see paying $500 +. Would have to lay eyes on it. A 3" 65 is hard to find these days.

My 3" 65 factory DAO is one of my favorites.

I picked up a nice unmodified 3" 65-3 from a member on this board about a month ago for $600. Since then I have buffed it out a little (probably will do more) and added some smooth ivories. Looking for a T-grip for it. But polished aluminum round butt K-frame T-grips appear to be as rare as hen's teeth.

There's been a 3" 65-5 on the board here for a few months.
