Default Gun Show- Day #2

OK, I bought the 66-2 snub Saturday at the show. Was very happy to get it. I also looked at a 686-6 Pro Series. 66 took priority of course!
What the heck, went back Sunday with my only poly gun. XDM 9 competition. 686 was still there. Approached seller. XDM & $125 dollars later, and Pro Series was mine. Box and papers were with it. No moon clips though. Does anyone use theirs? Gun fired very little and flaw free. It is not my normal thing though. 1st 7 shot, and 1st 5" barrel. Have NEVER gotten 2 guns in 2 days before! Bob

Well, as I see it, you just haven't been working at it hard enough. Its called getting in the groove. There are some tricks to all this, as spoken by a true addict. First, go to the bank before every show and take out enough money. Even if you haven't spent the money for the last show, load up again. Then start making friends with other S&W fools. Soon they'll be acting as a bad infuence. If you have a wife at home who scowls when you bring in new guns, learn to take old guns with you. Tell her its trading material and if you return with the same number, she might not get too mad. Then always take the guns out and back in using gun rugs. Buy new ones at the show and leave a rug or two in the truck. That way when you've worked your way up to 3 guns at a lucky show, you won't be afraid to leave one or two in the truck overnight or until she gets too busy to notice.

If there's a nearby railroad crossing, stop some time when you get the chance. Rocks are heavy, like guns. Smuggle some ballast into the house for later use. Just put a few rocks in the rug you carry out when you leave for the show. If you buy a gun, dump the free rocks in the show parking lot. If you see a pile lying there, you'll know I was at the same show and got lucky. Or some other fool who reads my drivel followed my advice.

Boxes work just like gun rugs. Buy them when you see them at the shows or here on the forum. I tend to use flat wrenches and ratchets to weigh the boxes down. If you leave them under the seat, its just normal clutter. Once I got a box from a friend here (Dewey). I got home kind of late and my wife was dying to know what was in the package/present. I wasn't concerned, it was from South Carolina and was from Dewey. She was a bit upset when I didn't tear into it instantly. So I then opened it and showed her it was just an empty box. That was how I got away with a stack of empties on top of the safe. She had this woman like view that one box equals one gun. Its important to break the connection in her mind. Boxes are boxes and guns are guns with no real connection between them. You can even sit in your easy chair and examine a box or two and compare them. If she asks, just explain you're interested in the old boxes and are looking at the differences. Its enjoyable and confuses the female mind.

Or you can take the smart move and ignore old gun collectors and all we've learned over the years.

You are one luck man. I bought a SSR in Jan., put a set of Ahrends on it and I just love mine! I hope you'll love yours as I do mine.

Default Gun Show- Day #2

Heres the gun show you want to make a pilgrimage to. It's the Wanamaker / Tulsa arms show.
It's in Tulsa ok. It's April 1 weekend this year. It's a 2 times a year show with the fall show at half the size of the spring show It's the largest in North America. It's 4000 tables.
It's B. I. G. So big you and the other sixty thousand people still have hordes of guns to buy.
From ars to drillings. It's all there.
Plan on going sat and sun just to see most of the tables. If you hurry and don't let up or get bogged down talking guns.

These are masterful tactics! I have used the Pink Grips Ruse with very good success. I used the same $30 set of pink grips to introduce 4 different J-frames into our marriage. She never looked at the guns or heard what I was saying, just gushed over the pink grips and asked when we could go shooting.

That's one of the most well laid out plans I've ever heard! Beautiful! I think I actually got a rear in my eye. If you ever run for public office, I swear I will pack up and move just to vote for you! Out country needs more officials with your planning ability

You da man!

Wow! I thought it was just me!

I smuggled a new gun in my range bag- after going shooting! I had already picked up the gun during work and got home with it in the trunk. Then I took the afternoon to go shooting, came back. Put the new gun in the bag. Ta-da! Made it into the safe!

What helps me is I keep my new gun boxes in the garage in old retired high school lockers with padlocks that I "retrofitted" and urbanized with padlocks.

But I've had to do that a couple times! I now suppose we've all had to do that or learn tricks.

You are the master tho. Loved the read.

The other day my wife made a comment that I had 50 guns.
I knew at that moment, she had no idea how many I really have.

WOW! guess I stirred something up!
I take my wife shooting occasionally. She never complains when I buy something. I am at my quantity of guns limit. (Imposed by myself)
So... If I want 1, 1, has to go to make way for a newbie. Bob

Several months ago I was attempting to fit two more long guns in the safe. I eventually realized that fitting any more in would require completely rearranging the safe. I laid cardboard out on the concrete floor, and proceeded to unload all the long guns, laying them in ranks on the cardboard. I was just ready to start re-loading the safe, when -
Mrs Dumpstick walked in.

My heart thudded. She surveyed the scene, and I could see her counting. Counting, I tell you.

It seemed like forever, her taking in the view, me looking like a carp about to be landed.

Finally, she broke the silence. Looking me square in the eye, she said ' Wow. That's a lot of rifles in that safe. You get any more, we'll need a bigger safe !'

And she left the room.

I think I'll keep her.

Well don't lie to her. First and foremost, don't count your guns. Ever. That way when she asks, you can truthfully tell her you don't know. And if you don't have 50 yet, its a go ahead to load up to that number. Its not all that many when you think about it. Come here and we'll help you feel better, its what gun forua are supposed to do. We're your imaginary internet friends.

A more serious problem is when some anti gun person or friend of your wife's ask. Its imperative you attack. Nicely of course, but ask back why they need to know. Everyone understand that its none of their business and is almost never asked to help you in any way. They ask to make fun of you or to suggest whatever number you come up with is too many. I can assure you its not, and you will be happier when you buy more. Trust me, I've done it and each new gun makes me happy. I haven't bought a new gun all this year and I'm feeling down about it. I've even heard the foolish suggestion that you don't need 2 because you can only shoot one at a time. That is provably false.

A word of advice. Buying the second safe might not be a mistake, but just upgrading to a bigger one is a mistake. Say like many of us, you've reached the upper limit of how stuffed your safe can get. Buying a second one, much larger is a good idea. But keep that first one. You can formulate all sorts of reasons. A good one is the price of ammo these days and you need to keep it locked up. Also its safer to have the ammo out of sight. Safes need to be located out of sight and never shown to anyone except your very most trusted friends. Never their teen offspring (its how word travels you've got goodies.) The Nashville, TN PD used to have an on line survey and some statistics. Of their solved burglaries, nearly all were done by someone who had been in your home, or a friend of theirs who had been.

Just seeing a safe is strong evidence you have guns worth big bucks (at least to a druggie.) Even the delivery of a safe during daylight hours is a mistake. And don't leave the big cardboard box out for the trash.
