I have a new to me 625-JM. I have been having problems with reloading during competition. Rounds not seating, or fully chambering. I use a TK custom loader and a dummy cylinder to check all my loads before a competition. Been having problems, not all the time but on occasion, it's been frustrating.
Yesterday after several tries on the clock to reload I finally figured it out. There appears to be dry tumbling media in the chambers, and its stopping them from chambering.
So should I blow out all my brass after cleaning or go with a wet tumbler?
Any insight would be appreciated.

Every time after brass is cleaned with dry media (tumbled) I visually inspect cases to make sure they are free of debris. When I load, I check them again. I tap case mouth open end down on my reloading table before loading again.. Never had a problem. I have a JM, myself, but don't shoot in competition. Bob

I think the 1st owner of my 625-2 was frustrated with rounds chambering and the cylinder turning that he sold it.

The brass cases of different ammo makers have different sized extractor cutouts so they will fit differently in moon clips.Also the thickness of the moon clips in the same pack(Ranch) can vary up to about .05".

I fixed my revolver by polishing the cylinder holes and using Remington cases.I also use the thinnest moon clips I have.

I carry a pistol cleaning rod to the range with a 50 caliber bore brush attached to clean the holes when they start to get tight.

I've mostly moved away from using moon clips and load 45 Auto Rim

Some competitions require reloading speed so 45 Auto Rim may not be an option for that.

What are you using for dry medial. Might want to think about a change.

Sometimes 45 acp brass will be bulged near the base which will cause problems in loading them in a revolver.

I started using a cartridge gage to check all my 45 acp brass before loading them into moonclips. Some of my brass are older than than dirt ,, and I've been picking up range brass for years..

I was getting probably 20 - 30% drop out when I started using the cartridge gage. I purchased a Lee Bulge Buster die and started running all the brass thru it before reloading. Solve the problem.

Another possibility, is slightly out of spec ammo.

I found that loaded rounds w/ slight "bullet base" one side bulges, or less then full length sized brass, would sometimes be hard to load - when clipped.

The same loaded rounds, would chamber just fine - when un-clipped.

Might also want to go w/ the clip manufacturer's (TK?) brass recommendation.

If there is media in the chamber , it is comming from the OUTSIDE of the case.
Wipe all cases before cliping.
Also , you don't need to tumble brass every time.
Try to "just load some and shoot"
Last, 45acp needs to be somewhat loose "rattle" in the clip.
This allows some "give" for chambering.

Are you sure it's tumbling media? In my 625 I see some powder residue from HS-38 powder that looks like a tan colored flake that could be mistaken for corn cob residue. It shakes out when I turn the moon clip upside down on the bench. Don't see it when shooting the 1911A1 because the brass gets tossed around. Doesn't happen (to me) with other powders like Win Autocomp.

Oh, yea, make sure to eject fired cases with the muzzle held up. Helps a lot to keep debris out of chambers and from getting under extractor star.

Good call, I sometimes forget everyone did not grow up shooting revolvers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can almost guarantee that this is what you are seeing, so you may want to try a different powder. I have been using Clays (or Clay Dot - same thing) and have no unburned powder in the chambers.

Clip thickness is not as critical with .45 ACP as it is with the minor calibers. .45 ACP brass has the most consistent extractor groove diameter (groove dimensions on rimless cases are specified by SAAMI) and this paired with the need for some "wiggle" in the clip, makes the .45 ACP very forgiving when it comes to loading with moon clips.

You're biggest problem is the unburned powder.
