3 inch 586-4 new to me
I recently added this one to my collection.
586-4 with a 3 inch barrel. Came with box and papers.
Gave it a quick clean, put on some combats and snapped a few photos to prove it happened
and here it is wearing the Hogue grips it was shipped with. Looking very very business like:
and a photo of the end label
thanks for letting me share.

WOW
I didn't even know they made 586s with 3 inch barrels.
Now I don't know how I'll continue to live without one.
Not cool, man, not cool!!
Jokes aside, congratulations sir, what a beautiful revolver.

should make an ideal everyday concealed carry pistol...Get a couple of good speed loaders & practice with her & them.. it'll stand you in good stead if you ever need it.

Is the rear sight a black blade?
A Jinks letter awhile back said just 200 of these product code 103495 were made for RSR. Another source said 250. Known s/n prefixes include BRU and BSA. Date code on label says it shipped.... August 2, 1994.

Very nice....
I'll have to get (another) one of those some day...
Probably the best looking modern S&W revolver, IMHO.

I am really frustrated by your post. Mostly, because I not feel compelled to go pick up a 3" 586. Looks really good.

I think if I found a 586 3" RB I would sell the rest of my collection for it! Been on my get list for two decades.

The rubber grips on this 3 inch 586 were not branded with a S&W logo, but simply the Hogue monogrip emblem:
From what I can tell from the few photos out there, the other 3 inch 586-4's appear to have the same grips. Can anyone verify if these are the correct rubber grips or if they are supposed to have the S&W emblem? To any other 3 inch 586-4 owners, what does yours have?
thanks

Hello Shark Bait,
Thanks for the &%#*, compliments
Unfortunately no great story on the acquisition. Been keeping my eyes open for one and found this one available online.
I am lucky to get it, especially with the box, etc.
The finish is not in perfect condition by any means but is still very nice. It cleaned up well. Some bluing loss on a few of the high spots and a little at the muzzle.
I don't know much about its history, but in speaking with the gun shop that posted it online for the previous owner, that owner had it only for a brief period of time. Sounds like he ran across it at another LGS in his area and snatched it up, knowing it was a rare bird.

The 586 3" I bought in November came with Hogue rubbers with no S&W emblem. I just received some new wood grips so Ill double check later tonight.

S&W factory combats. They pop up for sale here in the Forum classifieds, E Bay, and often found at the larger gun shows.

Yep, mine had Hogue rubbers. I would lean in the direction that all of the 586-4 3" came with Hogue grips.

3" barrel, black sights, round butt and pre-lock. That's pretty much L-frame heaven.

Add another model of S&W to my approval list. At first, the list was very very small. However, it has been expanding some. This 3" 586 is pretty sweet and would make a great carry gun. Oh yeah, that is exactly what I would use it for too. Limited production smuction, use that thing.
Congrats on a nice looking piece!

Don't know what you paid, but there is one on GB right now, not as nice as yours with a bid of $1300.

hello Todd,
I'd be interested to know how you found so many 586 snubbies. That's an amazing group you've collected.

hello iPac,
this one is not a safe queen and the other 3 inch examples I have seen photos of are not either, although I am sure some perfect examples exist.
seems like I have seen more perfect 2.5 inch examples than 3 inch.
maybe that means these 3 inch was destined to be carried as you
say. i like that "limited production smuction" thing.
