Default Red Dot Mounting

I'm using a Burris Red dot sight on 686-6 performance center Competitor. Any thoughts on where to mount the scope. Close to the hammer or close to the frount sight. Thanks. Fourbits

Default Red Dot Mounting

I use a Weigand mount over the cylinder. I like the red dot closer towards me. Since there is little parallax it doesn't matter too much. You just need to be able to see the dot when you're holding it.

I've seen AK47 rifles with the dot all the way down at the fore end. Mine are close so I can see the dot faster. Whatever works for you. You can experiment where it suits you. Just confirm on paper.

I find it doesn't matter too much, at arms length see the dot hit the target (assuming you get it dialed in)

The Burris FastFire can be mounted very low on the Alchin mount or the one on the classifieds here, http://smith-wessonforum.com/accesso...revolvers.html
They both look very similar, the one on this site is less expensive. You can't get a lower to the bore mount then either of these. These do mount with the three holes pre-drilled under your regular sight.

The Raptor mount has worked well for me and less cluttered than a Weigand mount. It places the red dot at the rear of the frame.

Over the cylinder balances better for most . I mounted mine , shot and shifted it a few time and over the cylinder was were it felt best.
