I am looking to purchase a Model 65 ver 7 with 4 1/2" barrel. Could someone give me a review of this firearm and it's value?

Thanks

Welcome! This was one of the last model 65 variations made, with the frame lock and MIM action parts. It has a 4" barrel by factory specs but it may be slightly longer. It's a perfectly nice gun; many would use mostly .38 Special and save full .357s for occasional practice or serious use.

I would guess it to be worth in the $450-500 range or so. It is in nice condition but earlier versions tend to be worth more. Hope this is helpful.

Nice looking pistol. I would snatch it up if it were at my LGS.

Murphydog has a good feel for these things, but in my local market (St Louis, Mo), I would expect that gun to go closer to $575 to $625 because it's a magnum. The Model 64s are a bit less expensive.

Bought mine, Cost - $200. (12-1977) Best gun and value ever. It has been on so many backpacking trips with me, never shot a 38 Special in it. Just a great gun... so buy it.

Default Additional Comments / Questions

Seller is a family member and bought it new. He he making some gun collection changes and ask whether I would like to purchase. He is a really great guy and takes care of all his firearms. He thought he could probably get $425-$450. But offered it to me for $350. Serial number is CHB9258. I know that the S&W serial number indicates shipment date, but are they sequential... meaning would that help closer determining mfg date within a give range?

Thanks
