Default 686 Grip recommendations?

I recently picked up a 686 plus. Really digging the gun except for two things, the lock and the grip.

I took care of the lock and now I am looking for a replacement grip. I don't want one with finger grooves. Also, I wear a medium glove but can squeeze into a small. So far I have been eyeballing the Altamont target grips in rosewood. No finger grooves and the price seems good. Just not too sure on the size.

Any help would be appreciated. Oh, this is a newer model with the round butt.

I've got the Altamont target grips for my 686 but for enjoyable shooting I prefer the Pachmayr Diamond Pro grips. The Altamont's look good, but the Pachmayr's are very comfortable at the range. They do, however, feel a bit small for my size XL hands, but should fill smaller hands nicely.

Hogue Cocobolo, but with only one finger groove, very comfortable. I have large hands.

I bought a set of Altamont Altai grips for my round butt 686 Plus. Feel and look great.

Altamont look nice to me. They are are priced reasonably too. My hands are fairly large w/ stubby fingers. Their stocks are too slim for me. I do not like the flattened front & backstrap areas. Prefer a stock that when the bottom of the butt is facing you is oval shape. Stocks are a personal thing. I do not think you will get it right the 1st. time, unless you get the chance to handle some different examples. Bob

I looked at the Pachmayr but they had the finger grooves.

How do you think the Altai would work for a hand on the smaller side? I am really close to pulling the trigger on a set of Altamonts.

Lol yeah, Bob, you are probably right about going through a couple sets.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I think my hands are medium. But I find I like the small P320 grip frame best. The Altai are a good size for me. I think they are smaller than the traditional Target Stock.

A personal thing! Some like Rubber, some fancy wood, while others prefer Stag, Ivory, Bone, synthetic, custom etc.

If you are gonna shoot a large amount of Magnums, Rubber will soak up the recoil well. Other than that - it's all about personnal preference, hand size and feel. Have fun!
