Default Resistance is Futile (pictures added)

After years of resistance to S&W's "L" frame revolver, I'm thinking I've gone soft in the head. I put a 586-8 on layaway a couple of days ago. I suspect it's been fired, but if it has, it hasn't been very much. It looks pretty much like brand new, and is one of the prettiest S&W's I've seen in quite some time. I guess this is one from the "Classic" series.

So...anybody else got one? Anything you like or don't like (I know...I know...the lock and MIM...those don't count).

And where are the pictures you should have taken with your phone at the gun shop of this so-called purchase? As we say here, "Pics or it didn't happen"!

Seriously, congrats on the new purchase. Don't worry about the lock or MIM, it doesn't mess with how the pistols works.

I wouldn't mind a 586 in nickel myself. I'm a sucker for a pretty nickel revolver.

Had an opportunity yesterday to shoot a lot of guns that belonged to other people. It just reinforced my high opinion of "L" frames.

Enjoy and keep us posted.

I have 586-8's in both 4" and 6". Both have tight, even cylinder to barrel gaps and uniformly sized throats. Both have smooth actions and are highly accurate. I bought them because of the looks originally but the 6" gun is so accurate that i'm using it as a regular shooter now. It has Pachmeyr rubber and a factory mainspring because I'm using it for magnum load work-ups. I would not do this to one of those nice old pre-lock guns.

A friend of mine has one of the classic 586s with the IL. Works well for him in our IDPA matches. I've been lusting after one for quite some time to match w/ my 686-4

I stuck my toe in the revolver waters by buying a 4" Classic 586. Ended up liking it so much that a few weeks later I swapped my BIL for a 4" 686 no dash, and then a few weeks later bought a 686+ Talo. Kinda liking revolvers a bit now.

You guys and gals are spreading hate and discontent among us wanna be S&W revolver owners. You need to stop it. :-)

My 686 came home with me in 1987, still the top dog around here.

Have a blessed day,

Leon

Default Model 69 L frame ...

My model 69 in .44 Magnum with 4" barrel is a great shooter with excellent accuracy. The lock, while it detracts from the classic look has not posed any problems for me. Besides the FastFire III optic it also has a set of Crimson Trace laser grips for fast close in target acquisition.

Now I'm waiting for the 2.75 inch version to become available to add to my collection as an intimidating carry gun:

I have a pancake high rise holster that makes it possible to carry the 69 under a jacket.

Sweet looking gun. I'm in the market for an L frame .357 or will be very soon. It's in the on-deck circle. Trying to nail down the barrel length I want. I prefer stainless for its durability but when I see pics of those .586's.... may have to go that route. I will be buying a new-production gun when I do. Great buy. Enjoy.

I have an easy solution for you: Buy 2 SS 686's, one with 4" barrel and one with 6" barrel, and 2 blue 586's, one with 4" barrel and one with 6" barrel. Problem solved. You can thank me later. :-)

I think an L frame 696 no dash is the perfect L frame.

One of my 12 revolvers has the IL.I've only had the nickle 21-4 a few weeks so I'm not yet ready to advocate MIM and IL.The price was more than right so I brought it home.

The other 11 have hammer mounted firing pins with DOBs of 1995 and prior.

I was carrying an N-frame when those came out and "most" of my K-frame packing buddies went over to them over the next few years. By then I was in plainclothes and saw no need. By the time I got out the shift to bottom-feeders was complete.

But DANG those are pretty!

Forgive me as I've posted this pic before but I sure do like the L frames as well. K's and L's...life is good.
