Need help deciding-627 4"Pro or 629 4"
Ill start with this: TAX RETURN TIME!
I currently have a GP100 .357 4" and a SRH 7 1/2" .44.
I'm looking for a little guidance on deciding which of the these two S&W model's I should add to the stable. I have never fired either of the two Smith's, love the .44 mag round and find 8 rnds of .357 fascinating.
Let the opinions fly!
Thanks, Troy

Sure . I'll play. 627.
I shoot my 627 the most. It "lives" in my range bag. If you ever /never tried an 8 shot, they're something else. I had 3 gp100s and a few Redhawks. A mooncliped 8 shooter is much different.
Although I do shoot 44s,it's far less. And if you buy new ammo-more expensive.

Gotta love a team player!
I'm really leaning towards the 627, more of a "racing" gun when compared to the 629.

Yes! A race gun. With very little to tinker with.
Just finding the right ammo for it and the use of the correct moonclips and you're good to go!

Well.. it's done. A new 627 is on order, did a bunch of reading tonight and I think that platform suits me best. Now I'll start saving up for the 629!

I'll say, I love .38/.357 and .44 magnum.
With that said, I had the same choice (.357 or .44) back in Dec and I went with the 627. The pistol is just awesome to shoot, great size, great weight, and the barrel keeps the muzzle down on repeat shots.
Like everyone else here, I love to shoot. Often and a lot. .38 is easily the cheapest to shoot (especially for me, I do not reload) so that helped my decision big time. Also, I like range time to take time so I don't want something that is going to fatigue me so fast like the .44 does.
OP, you picked a nice shooter, I'm sure you'll be more than pleased with it.

627 Weight Almost Identical to 4in 686
I bought the 627PC a couple years ago, and just love it.
Compared to my bought new 4in 686 No-dash, the weight and handling are nearly identical:
- 686 4in .357 loaded, weighs 43oz.
- 627PC 2.62in .357 loaded, weighs 42.4oz.
Notice that with my 627PC I get 8-rounds, plus save 0.6oz. in weight. Two extra rounds, a shorter barrel, and save weight. IMO, you can't beat that with a stick...

Well, here she is! All dirtied from a handful of rounds, went from the LGS straight to my range and broke er in. While I was at the LGS he showed me a SW 3913 that he had just taken in, I made the mistake of fondling it....$400 later it has a new home...
Hmm....can't seem to load pics...stand bye:

I own a 627 pro and a 4" 629. The obvious answer is both.
