Default Model 18-7 Sight Problem

I was having trouble with the sights on my 18-7 at 25 yards. It was hitting approximately 4 inches high at 25 yards with the rear sight all the way down. Ended up changing the whole rear sight with a used one, was planning on filing the rear sight down to get the proper sight picture to hit the center of the bullseye, got lucky and the new used rear sight gave me the proper sight picture. Go figure.....

Seeing how it has a Lifetime Service Policy, I would of first given Springfield a chance to fix it for free.

I might of tried to find a taller front Partridge blade. It's just a few bucks, one pin, and S&W makes them in several heights. There's some aftermarket blades as well.

The main thing is you have where you want it now.

1.) I ask S&W Customer Service about a new front sight blade and the response was they "don't support these any more". So did not pursue it any farther.

2.) The local gun shop had a complete & proper rear sight in their junk box. For $25.00 and the time it took to swap the sight it was worth it. Besides I would have had to order the ble and then fit it to the gun.

3.) Yes, I am pleased with the outcome.

That's was a curious response from CS. Many models in current production use an identical Patridge blade, and your -7 can't be very old. Less than 10 years, and they're already declaring it an unserviceable obsolete parts orphan.

You got a good deal on the rear assembly. Most places would want twice that. Nice to have such a reasonable LGS. Probably some guy had them scope a gun and told them to keep it.

Dear Customer,

Unfortunately due to the age of this firearm we no longer carry parts I would recommend contacting one of the following retailers for assistance in locating a front sight for this firearm.

Brownells

Midway

Numrich

Dawson Precision

If you have any other questions please feel free to contact us
Thank you and Have a Great Day!

Smith&Wesson values its customers and we are happy to have served you today. Please do not hesitate to contact us should you require further assistance.

Regards, Brett

The LGS folks are friends. They get a lot of cut up firearms from police sales and scavenge parts from them. I got lucky........both in finding the part and it fixing the problem with no further work.

I have had much better luck dealing with S&W Customer Service by telephoning them.
Seems that the company isn't really e-mail savvy.

Just saying..
