I recently picked up a 28-2 from a retired LEO who bought it from a retired LEO many years ago. Great gun. 7.5# DA, 1.8# SA.

The only thing I don't like about it is this piece that was added to widen the trigger. It looks like it is held on by two very small hex screws, but the holes are actually round.

I would like to remove it, as I prefer a standard width trigger. Is anyone familiar with this part, and if so, how can it be removed.

It is a trigger shoe, and it is supposed to be held on with small set screws.

Just loosen up the 2 set screws and it should pull right off. I removed one of those that was on a Colt 1911 I inherited from my father. Unfortunately the set screws had buggered up the side of the trigger.

When I blow up the pic provided I see them as allen set screws - not round holes. Maybe try a different sized allen wrench. If that won't work you are looking at a very small extractor or drilling them out. If you drill them get a left-hand twist bit so you are drilling them out in the direction to remove them. Dollars to donuts they will back out on their own.

I had a run with those trigger shoes, until I removed one, and found it destroyed the case finish on the trigger.

The hole may look round but the Tiniest allen wrench ever made will turn out the tiny set screws. I have one on my model 64, target revolver, and keep the tiny wrench in the small plastic box the shoe came in . When I get home I'll try and figure out what size it is.
I don't think the normal assorted set of allen wrenches you buy has one that small in it.
Give the screws a long soak with penetrating oil , liquid wrench , it doesn't take much to lock up the tiny threads, sweaty hands/trigger finger will cause them to seize up tight and that wrench is thin .
These shoes were made for target shooting and are great for SA , not so much so for a lot of DA shooting, some would smooth the ridges off for DA. Back in the day this was the Apex trigger kit...low tech, but it was all we had.
Try shooting it with and without the shoe in place , you might like it....I do !

I'd be surprised if your LEO friend used a trigger shoe on his duty gun. Many departments discouraged there use, due to the possibility of the protruding trigger shoe causing a negligent discharges when quickly jammed into a holster. They can be beneficial on a pure target/range gun. Not so great for a holstered working gun.

Colonel you are correct. My agency forbade them but for a different reason. The set screws can become loose and the shoe can slide down and hit the bottom of the trigger guard which binds it and will not allow the gun to fire.

Thank you. You were exactly right about the Allen wrench. I found one that came with a laser sight that fit perfectly.

Keep them as my old M&P came with them. They don't make them any more. It seems to lighten the pull.
