Default Burn Mark on front side of cylinder

I recently purchased a 29-10 4-inch, shot some full power loads through it cleaned it and noticed burn marks on each of the six cylinder front side about a 1/2 inch back from the front. (looks like I held a torch to the cylinder) I have a 29-2 that I have shot for years no burn marks. Also a 629-6 no burn marks. and a 29-2 Nickle, no burn marks. I Don't like the new Smiths with the key anyway, not as smooth, and no hammer firing point. Anyone else ever experienced the burn marks with the new Smiths. Thanks

What you are experiencing is that gasses escaping the barrel/cylinder gap flow back along the top of the cylinder.
Then they hit the sight screw holes in the top strap and are deflected down onto the cylinder side. The remainder flows straight back and collects above the firing pin at the top of the frame cutout.
Entirely normal. Flitz on bronze wool will quickly remove them/.

I have found that Remington 4O-X Bore Cleaner and a brass brush will remove those burn marks pretty quick. I have tried several products but this one is the best of the lot I've tried. I dab some on with a q-tip and let it set for a while then wet the brush and start scrubbing. Makes the front of my cylinder look brand new. Also use it to clean the forcing cone. Use it in the cylinder holes and the bore too. Don't forget to shake it up well.

Wasn't aware of 4O-X Bore Cleaner.
Sounds promising.
Just ordered a bottle from Amazon.
