First time poster, not a big gun owner but wanted a bigger type pistol as I build out my collection. Had my eye on a 627 from the PC for quite a while now and recently bit the bullet.

I like this pistol quite a bit. First time to the range I put 50 rounds of Remington HTP 38 special + P 125 gr. through it to start. Then I put 50 round of Winchester Super X 158 gr JHP through it. Just for grins I shot half a box of HTP 180 gr and finished with some Remington Gold Saber SJHP SD loads. It definitely spanks your hand at 180 and I see why you might want those rubber grips.

I also got the Desantis cross draw holster from SW... can wear standard side or cross draw. Aside from being big, it's very comfortable to wear. Crossdraw seems very natural to me and is invisible under my heavier type coat

Not sure when I'll get back out to the range but still need to bench shoot it. Easy enough to hit the 8/9/10 rings at 15 yards but still not used to double action shooting. Overall, the action is very smooth. Comes up very naturally and very easy to cock if choosing to shoot SA. One thing I noticed immediately is how easy it is to rest your finger on the trigger. I know this is not how you're supposed to do things, but personally, it seems completely safe to me, maybe safer. You are aiming your pistol with a two handed grip at the target and the chances of accidentally pulling the trigger through the necessary range of DA motion to cock and release seems about nil to me. Or just holding it at your side. Maybe it the heat of the moment, don't know.

There's no night site on it or one offered by SW. SW gave me the dimensions of the sights but I didn't immediately see a Trajicon or a Novak site on either their webpages. This seems like an oversight on SWs part (sorry for pun); why they don't have one on it I don't know unless the don't consider SD a primary use for this pistol as is? Probably easy enough to gunsmith something. Or go ahead and put the Crimson Trace N-frame grips on it that are available. But really like the look of the walnut grips. Or just hold a flashlight.

Not sure if this gun is the ultimate value vs a Ruger, maybe, but I like that its a big gun, the 5 inch barrel and I definitely like that it loads eight and that it's PC tuned. The moonclips are great as well.

Welcome to the forum. Nice choice of gun and it sounds like you enjoy it. I've been looking at the "L" frame Pro version of it.

I had the same wood grips on my PC 686, until the first 180gr magnums went through it , then swapped them for rubber Hogue's .

Go to Dawson Precision (TX). They have the front Night Sight you desire. I've had one on my 627-5 for 5 years now. Great folks to deal with.

Congrats on a great Revolver. OBTW: For Full Moons that don't have much in the way of jiggle, you want the .025" thick clips. Ebay has them or you can buy them from Dillon Precision (AZ) or Revolver Supply.

I have the 4" 627 Pro Series, and absolutely love it. I just picked it up last week and couldn't resist stopping by a nearby range and test firing it with Fiocchi 357 FMJ 142gr. It shoots beautifully, and recoil was surprisingly pleasant with those rounds. I love the stock sights.

It is such a beautiful revolver and mine seems like it got the PC treatment, as far qualitiy control (assembly)and finish. Excellent!

I would have gone for the PC model had it come with a 4" barrel. The double action is good and I plan on doing a lot of shooting, before considering a trigger job. I don't normally shoot single action, but it was very light in testing.

These 627's are keepers!

You made a fine choice in revolvers.

I have had night sights on one of my 5" 627s for the past 16 years even though I bought the revolver two decades ago when they were first introduced.
I can not recall who I bought the front sight blade from. It might have been SDM it might have been Dawson. Trijicon provided the tritium lamp that is in it. The Smith and Wesson IFS (Interchangeable Front Sight) makes changing front sights a 2 minute job. All you do is pull the sight to the rear (spring loaded) and tilt the front up and out
Reverse the procedure to install

The rear sight blade is from Meprolight. You use your factory rear sight assembly and just change the blade. This is a bit more time consuming.

I had my sights re-lamped about 7 or 8 years ago. It is approaching time to re-lamp them again.

I have had a 627 pro series about eight years. If I could have only one revolver, that would be the one I choose.

Did you happen to polish the cylinder on your 627 or is that factory?

This is only the 27th production, 8 shot model 627 ever manufactured. It is from the initial run of 300 pieces produced in early 1997.

My favorite revolver is the 627 Pro. Absolute tackdriver and consistent performer.

I have the 627-5 PC and love it to death. The only thing I would consider changing is the adjustable rear site but doesn't bother me enough to change it.

I think a fixed rear will suit me better once I start carrying again but will see how the adjustable does.

I really like my 627-5 pro and it is my best shooter in my hands. Right out of the box I wasn't happy with the trigger pull in DA. I did back off the main tension spring screw and oiled the contact points. Wow what a difference it made to the trigger in DA especially. I have had no problems with light strikes or any problems with it.
I had an Ruger GP100 Match Champion that I couldn't shoot near as well as the 627 and I sold the MC.

This is my Dream Gun of all ttime and maybe this may be the year. Thanks to all for showing their Model 627's on here. The 5" barrel is for me. I think its the prettiest handgun in the world.

The moonclips tell you the intended purpose of the gun. It is way more gun than I think most people would use for SD. Some form of glowing sights would make it entirely versatile though.

edit: Wait a minute! What moonclips? S&W's specifications online say nothing I could find about moonclips. How does that work, since some obviously have them?

Congratulations on a fine revolver. Don't want to lecture on safety but will anyway. Resting your finger on the trigger while aimed at your target ready to fire is Ok. Doing it while holding at you side not good. Finger outside the trigger guard until ready to fire. End of lecture

Congratulations, you'll never regret this purchase. I've had mine for 3 years and love to take it to the range. I considered a 686 and tried a couple, including one that had a trigger job. After firing the one with the trigger job, the others just felt a little rough. I tried my brother-in-law's 627 PC and that was all she wrote. Price wise, when you factor in a trigger job, extra grips & moon clips it was a great deal.

I've often considered the 627 or 327 with the stubby barrel for CC use.

^^^^what he said. I believed the Match Champion would be the equivalent of my 686SSR and an improvement over my Wiley Clapp 3" GP100. Wrong. I sold the MC after a week, simply could not shoot it. I found it inferior to the WC. Let's not mention the SSR in the same sentence...
