Default 25 Classic, 325-13 or Ruger .45/.45 Colt? Which to get?

Need your help and input please. I am wanting to get a Henry All Weather (Chrome) .45 Colt and a companion gun... Would use at the range, and possibly for hog and hiking or trips. In looking at this site and tons of pictures I fell in love with the S&W 625 Mountain Gun in 45 Colt.... only to learn they are no longer made.

So I could get a new 25 Classic, looks beautiful but does not seem real handy with the 6.5 inch barrel. I just saw a used S&W 25-13 (hope I am saying that right) at a local gs. Looks nice and clean but I have never bought a used gun and would worry I am not seeing something wrong with it. Plus it is $999 so hundred or so MORE than a new 25. Or I could get the Ruger Redhawk .45 colt/ .45 acp. Just wondering if I am overlooking any options or what you all think. Thanks in advance for your help.

As an aside- I am mainly a semi auto shooter, but first ever gun was a 586 back around 1991 or so... Just wanting something that makes bigger holes and is fun and versatile. Thanks!

I had the Ruger Redhawk 5032 and traded it away with no regrets. It's a nice revolver and well made and weighs in at about 46oz.The factory wood grips look nice but rather small and there's no aftermarkets available for that round butt.

Don't be in a rush.I suggest you look around for a 4" 25-5 with an unpinned barrel made after 1982.IMO,they're the best of the Model 25 in 45 Colt.

The Model 625-2 5" and 625-3 4" are also very well made and have excellent accuracy but they are 45acp.

IMO,the mountain guns are VG revolvers but not worth the extra cost

I shun S&W revolvers made after 1995.

I have a 25-15 in 45 Colt. I bought it on impulse at a local gun show. It is accurate, and quite fun to shoot. ANIB for $750 OTD. I just use it for range use. Bob

No S&W was harmed in any way in these photos!

Howitzer, I was fortunate to buy a 625-9 back in 2006, when S&W did put out Mountain Guns in .45 Colt. Mine is accurate and fun to shoot. I keep it in my nightstand loaded up with factory .45 Colt SJHP ammo.

I agree with others, wait until you find exactly the revolver you want. I think in the long run, you'll be more satisfied.

625-9 "Mountain Gun"

Thanks for viewing my "Mountain Gun."

God bless,
Birdgun

A 45 caliber convertible Ruger Blackhawk may suit your purpose. No moon clips are needed.

What a wonderful path ahead of you. I too have a Henry brass Big Boy in .45 colt. Sidearm wise, since .45 colt is my very favorite caliber..........Two S&W 25-5s (pinned barrel), Ruger flat top new model Blackhawk (Lipsey's), Cimarron P model, and the king of them all, Colt SAA 7 1/2" second gen.
The 25-5s are my hunting sidearm while toting a rifle. Those have a lot of haters because some had over size chamber mouths, mine will group 3-4" at 25 yards everyday all day. Acceptable to me from their 4" barrels. I believe 6+", are best for hunting. A perfect barrel length for an N-frame, IMHO is 4-5".

Default 25 Classic, 325-13 or Ruger .45/.45 Colt? Which to get?

I have two revolvers in 45 Colt that I have yet to fire,

an unfired 25-13 Mountain Gun

Dressed it up a little with some Eagle combats

And a brand new 5-1/2" Cimarron Bisley that I picked up at the dealer yesterday

Need to get some range time and leather for both.

Howitzer, without looking at the gun in hand, the only thing you have to go on is the seller's description of the revolver and the seller's reputation.

Good shooting.

I have 3 of these. In 45 colt you can load them from mild to wild. Then you have the ACP cylinder that does not need moon clips. My Smith 25s just sit in the safe looking pretty but Rugers get shot a lot.

I have several 45 colt chambered revolvers , 2 smiths , 25-5 , 25-10 . The latter I had to change out the front sight as I couldn't screw down the rear sight enough for 255swc cast bullets . The 25-5 is pure joy to shoot (even with the oversize cylinder throats) , increditably accurate . I size my cast bullets .454 for both .
I have an old model ruger vaquero in 45 Colt ( built on the 44 magnum frame ) . It is like new and just sits in the box .

The Classic grips by Culina help as well, making a very satisfying package of power, accuracy and good looks.

Pinned

Not pinned

The finish of the second gun is not quite up to the standards of the pinned gun, but they perform identically with my ammo.

Holy grips! What woods are those? Man this forum costs me a fortune Thank you for sharing. Those are fantastic revolvers wearing very attractive wood!

The wood is Ziricote, not presentation grade but much better than standard. Ziricote is very hard, holds checkering very well and is extremely durable.

As much as I like Smith's, I really enjoy my .45 Colt Ruger Redhawk with the 4" barrel. Bought it on a whim because it balanced nicely and have never regretted it.
