What kind of wood is it?

Take your time answering, I gotta go wipe the drool of my chin and change shirts.

Old Elmer preferred real Ivory. Not available now. The last time I saw something like this . A guy searching a Ghost town in Nevada found a substance like that. It was a melted bowling ball from a fire long ago.

Thank you, Exiled Cheesehead, for taking pictures of the amazing set you received. It is always nice to see where they land for a complete picture. They sure are pretty!

If anyone wants to see some more examples we have made in the dyed stabilized Maple burl you can click the link below. I've attached a few photos as well. There are several colors to choose from. The wood goes through a complicated process and it is double-dyed which adds a layered look. It takes several months to get in. Please email or PM me for more information or to answer any questions. Thank you!

Osage Orange is a pretty wood. It's hard and durable and looks great on any finish, and is often used to make bows. I like how the individual cells in the wood have iridescence. It makes you look at them closer. They look great!

Those are great. So are the blue something or other grips that you made for somebody else a few weeks / months ago. You make the most visually appealing grips that I have seen, anywhere. Well done sir. I find myself coming back to the threads for a second, third, or fourth look.

Very pretty stocks,
Perhaps more of a Culina "Distinguished Combat Magnum" than a "Masterpiece" ?

Jebus35745, I see Exiled answered you. It is a very lovely revolver.

Carrying this wood is new for us. It takes a few months to get in after ordering and there are a lot of colors and combinations. In general, this will be a special order item only. Every time I will order some extras but I suspect they will go quickly like the first batch of blocks, because they are so different. Every burl block is unique and has indiviudal character too.

I am very exited to see new colors and combinations. The bright colors are not going to be for everyone, but clear, black, gray and brown offer more natural looks. I think there is something for most people. Stay tuned for new colors and looks.

None of my Smiths are worthy of these! Maybe my near perfect K38. The stainless guns are too rough and tumble. I have known for a while I wanted to put Culinas on a set of nickel N frames I'm trying to put together.

Hey Larry I have an appreciation for the figured woods too. The Spalted Maple you asked about is a lovely figured wood too, basically a soft light cream color with linear runs of black and some patches of gray and even a slightly washed soft pinkish red. This all comes from the fungi that has invaded the wood, technically it is rotting but beautiful! I have a few slices of it that I have saved.

The 'Burl' that was used by Culin here comes from those large growth bulges you find on the sides of trees. They can get quite large and are dream of a piece of wood for those that make bowls and other wooden utensils as well as of course revolver grips! Next time you wander through the woods keep your eyes peeled, take a battery powered chain saw and shave one off!

By the way those burls and dyes are simply stunning that Culina did, wow!

Please share a picture of your "case colored" custom grips with your revolver when they are completed. The two will make a great combination, no doubt.

Just be sure you have permission to do so - go walking in my woods with a chain saw would not be appreciated - especially if you go around damaging trees by cutting off the burl.
