Default New Cokes from Altamont

Just spotted these being introduced by Altamont.
I know the purists will scream, but this is a much-needed product.
Solid wood, not laminated.

Very nice. I'll have to check that out. Thanks.

Love the ruptured duck.

I looked last month when they got a mention on this site, but couldnt find any info on Altamont's site. Can you share a pic of the installed grips from the back of the gun?

Thanks for the heads up. Bad news, I just now went to their site, and they are temporarily unavailable. Some of you guys must have bought them out?? I need a set to replace those on my S frame 28. I have lost the originals in a move after using rubber for awhile.

Thanks anyway, they should have more later.

I got unavailable also. They probably underestimated interest, and the CNC is cutting other grip styles.

Sent them an email and got this response:

"We are able to take orders for the S&W N Square and S&W K/L Square Coke Bottle grips now. They will be available for shipment in 2-4 weeks. If you are interested in either of those, we can send a custom PayPal Invoice via email or you are welcome to call to order at 1-800-626-5774 ext. 10.

The S&W N Round Conversion and S&W K/L Round Conversion Coke Bottle grips are coming soon! We don't have a release date available yet, but we can shoot you an email when they become available if you would like?

Thanks,

Thanks OP for sharing and Altamont for responding. I have to admit that whenever I see Altamont mentioned, I'm not very interested due to an earlier experience. I bought a Md 657 Classic Hunter back in the late 90s that came with Altamont "Rosewood" grips. Well, they weren't rosewood and they werne't wood either. But it is nice to see they are producing a really nice looking product in natural wood.

Before you buy those look at the "cokes" made by Eagle.......Much better wood and closer to the original dimensions.....Better grip/stock overall...

Here's a set of Rosewood "cokes" by Eagle for my Colt Anaconda. They have a slight palm swell.

Okay, what are they asking for the altmounts?
While I am skeptical, they seem nice, and they look comfy, a little smaller than the eagles.

They are not showing a price. Normally their grips run under $70.

Altamont stocks seem to be thinner in profile. I like the feel of genuine target stocks that were actually made by S&W. A prime example is my 25-15. Swapped stocks that came with it for 80's real wood targets. Feels much better. Bob

I'm with you.....Altamont stocks are WAY too thin in the shoulders and 1/2" too long on the bottom.....Apparently who ever designed them never fired a magnum handgun..................

I'll be ordered a set once the k/l round to square conversions are available. For that price, it's worth a try. I can't say the same for Eagles price, I can get a nice set of Herrett Jordan Troopers for less, and I know they'll fit my hand as well as look good.

If you are thinking of the Eagle grips, call rather than order on line. I ordered a set this past December and was told they were back ordered awaiting wood from India. Five months later they were still waiting for wood so, I canceled. The Eagle product is very nice but, they apparently are having difficulties.

There is another maker of aftermarket "cokes". I started a thread on them before I knew how to ID the real ones. The name escapes me.

Altamont Grips do have their place. As long as one is not trying to replicate original Factory Grips, they're OK. As a substitute for the original they do not cut the mustard.

Ordered a set of these and I must have got one of the earlier (still in development) sets or some that were made at the end of the day on a friday. They were no where near as nicely crafted as the set in the pics that they have posted on their website. The emblems were set in holes that were very roughly drilled (like it was a dull bit that was used). The finish is plain and almost non existent, like bare wood. The wood along the backstrap was wider but not fitted even to the frame. There is a palm swell but I have big hands and these were just too narrow for me. Should have took some pics but I wanted to get them back in the mail ASAP and get a refund. Altamont was very cool about the return though. No problem at all returning them.

HOWEVER: it is important to know that it does take them 5 days, after they receive your return package, to process your refund. That is a little detail I didn't catch on their website.

I just received a set of coke-bottle targets from Altamont.
They feel very good in the hand, although I haven't fired the 629 with them.

Can you talk about the fit and finish? From the picture it looks like the finish is not very glossy.

Altamont does have a terrific return policy.

I don't care for checkered laminate. Laminate is very hard and that checkering is SHARP. Their smooth grips are quite good for the $$$ IMO.

Personally I like the looks of these. To me they look better than the pictures on their website. What did they set ya' back for that set?
