Default Back AND front adjustable sights?

Quick newbie question: I understand the function of adjustable sights, but I was wondering if there is any benefit to having both rear and front adjustable sights on a revolver?

I assume you would have an event greater greater rang of adjustments available, but I'm wondering if that's useful in any sort of practical/useful way.

The adj front sights are used primarily for silhouette competition. The rear sight is set and left alone and the front sight which has four settings are set at 25, 50, 75 & 100 yards to make it easier to change your sight adjustments when advancing to the next bank of steel critters.

As was mentioned above, several models have had front adjustable sights, primarily for Metallic Silhouette competition. This this is the front sight on my 29-3, it is a 4 position adjustment by the little wheel. You can individually adjust each setting.

Similar sights were used in PPC competition back in the 70s when custom barrels and ribs were the thing. Sights were set at 15, 25 and 50 yards for a neck hold and the bullets went to the X ring. About every match, I used to overhear comments from competitors who forgot to change the sights when moving to different yardages! Kind of amusing when the bullet was about a foot or so from the X ring.
I was too poor for a custom gun and had to shoot my stock gun with a center hold.

Adjustable front sights on 29-3 Silhouette provide 4 sight settings..Each position is individually

adjusted to whatever distance the shooter desires

My 1910 Colt Officers' Model Target has a windage adjustable rear sight and an elevation adjustable front sight. If there is an advantage to that it must be having a less bulky rear sight that is less prone to snag on holsters or clothing. More likely it was less expensive to manufacture.

The advantage to the multiple position front sights show above is that you do not have to count elevation clicks between the different distances fired in standardized matches. There was a chance that you'd get distracted from your click counting and loose track of where the sight was at.
