Cleaning 442 after shooting wax bullets

I want to make wax bullets for some easy cheap shooting fun for my 442-2.
I found a recipe in american rifleman paraffin beeswax and Vaseline pressed into cases with the flash hole drilled out.
My question is specifically on cleaning the wax gunk out. I have found cleaning recommendations to use ammonia and solvent and other things like that but i didnt think you were supposed to use solvents on a 442 finish i thought you were just supposed to use oil and thats it.
Anyone shot wax thru their jframe and found something ti clean it with?

i recommend that you just buy the Speer .38 Plastic Bullets and Cases from midwayusa.com. They use a large pistol primer for propulsion and the bullets and cases are reusable. No reloading equipment is necessary and cleanup is minimal. A piece of carpet works well as a bullet stop. They will break skin so use the usual precautions. Ammonia can cause problems for your finish so I'd avoid it.

Simply run a bronze or nylon brush through the bore and charge holes, one in & out pass will be sufficient. Then wipe down the exterior with your choice of oils and you are done. Might take as long as 1-2 minutes!

BTW, you only have to soften the parafin slightly using heat until it is easy to cut with the cartridge case. Insert the "bullet" first, then prime the case, otherwise air will be trapped in the case and push the bullet right out. You can lay the parafin blocks in the sun or turn your oven on "warm" for a few minutes. Be careful, parafin melts around 150 degrees.

The Speer "Target .38" option is a good one too.

Some years back I bought a box of misc at a gun auction. In it
was a box of 500 wax bullets 357. They were factory made and
were hard, left no residue to speak of. Box was in bad shape at
the time and I threw it away and put bullets in another box.
Does anyone know source for these?

Many years ago I tried the Speer .38 Plastic Bullets and cases. I stood back about 10 feet and shot one at a spare piece of wood paneling. The bullet went through the paneling and produced a very nice perfectly round hole. If you decide to use these make sure your bullet trap can take them safely and your distance is more than 10 feet.
