Show-N-Tell, your sweetest shooter...
Here is my absolute sweetest shooter. It's a Lew Horton Performance Center Model 27-8 that was born in 2007. As much as I generally prefer the quality of the older P&R models, for the last few years this one is has been the first that I grab when I head out to the range. The .357 magnum has always been one of my favorite calibers, the 5 inch barrel is perfect to me, and the 8 shot cylinder is just icing on the cake. I really love this darn thing. If I could find another one, I'd probably buy it, simply because two are better than one. Please share pictures of yours.

Dang, I gotta pick one? Well, this one does tag along with me more than my other guns. It's a 6 1/2" 629-4 Classic PowerPort with a FastFire III on a Raptor mount. When I act right this one really shines!!

Currently, it 's a tossup between the Ruger GP-100 and the S&W M-66-3, both with four-inch barrels.
But when I owned them, my best handgun accuracy came from a M-29 with 6.5 inch barrel, a Colt New Service in .45 Colt, 5.5-inch bbl., made about 1935, a few M-27's and M-28's with six inch barrels, and a Colt Gold Cup .45 auto. All would print groups at 25 yards from "offhand" that had all bullet holes in a single cluster or touching.
I was disappointed in a five-inch M-27 that just didn't shoot as well as expected. Nor did a M-1950 .45 Target with 6.5 inch barrel. Accuracy with the soft lead .45 Auto Rim ammo left a lot to be desired, and I don't recall that it was any great thing even when I loaded .45 ACP ball in half moon clips. The satin blue finish also wasn't on par with the Bright Blue of M-27 and M-29 guns. I could have worked on a harder cast lead SWC bullet handload in .45 AR, but cases were scarce and I just lacked the incentive. The bulk of the gun vs. available power left me feeling that if I wanted a big bore revolver, my M-29 .44 was the answer. The M-1950 .45 is now a collectors item, worth a lot more than it was when I owned mine, about 1970.
My greatest disappointment was a Colt National Match grade .38 Super from about 1935-36. It was a beautiful gun, and like my New Service, was in near new condition. But it wouldn't shoot for sour grapes! VERY smooth hand honed action and the fixed sights were adequate and gave good results on my .45 autos.
I sold the gun, only to read a few years later that .38 Super chambers were made to headspace on the small semi rim of the cases, so no real consistency was produced. Chambers made to headspace on the case mouth, as with other auto pistol cartridges, cured the problem and I think Colt adopted that remedy several decades ago. SIG P-220's in .38 Super always shot well. Colt took over 50 years to correct this problem, which they should have forseen before introducing the chambering in 1929. I think this is the main reason why the .38 Super never became popular!
The biggest pleasant surprise was how well the S&W M-60-4 full lug three-inch barreled .38's shoot. Both of mine have been under the delusion that they're target guns, not small revolvers for trail use and concealed SD carry. One has color casehardened hammer and trigger and the other was from a production batch with flash-chromed action parts. Both have excellent trigger pulls for J-framed guns.
I really can't say which of the guns in the first paragraph shot best, as they were so close and I simply couldn't shoot them better. All would blow off the head of a rattlesnake at danger ranges or kill jackrabbits with ease. I think the Gold Cup was probably best. It was a real tack driver with Federal's 230 grain Match loads. But the .45 holes were bigger, especially with 200 grain SWC handloads, so the groups from the .357's looked smaller. Two Colt Pythons with six-inch barrels shot as well as, but not better than, S&W M-27's.
I've never owned a Performance Center or Classic gun but they supposedly shoot the best of all S&W's. But some others just lucked out on QC, I guess and delivered superb results. Many M&P/Model 10's shoot so well in good hands that they amaze their owners. My M-64 was in that class.

My favorite of 6 hand guns is my 19-8. Tight as Uncle
dicks hatband, smooth as silk and very accurate.

This 617 without a doubt - I have thousands of rounds thru this thing. I shoot a lot off my elevated deck at everything from leaves to bottle caps. And now that I have a new (to me) El Paso holster for it, it's gonna be my squirrel rig this fall!

I just can't decide. The one on the left is a 6-1/2" M 24-3. The one on the right is a 6-1/2" Model 24-3.

Took this 16-4 to the range last week. With 100 grain hard cast SWCs with 3.0 grains of Titegroup it was definitely my favorite last week.

Both your Boyt case and that El Paso Model 2 holster look very familiar: I have the same. I have both the EPS holsters and the Safariland Model 29, which is virtually identical and was for years my favorite revolver holster. I'm glad that EPS still offers that style. I like it bit better than the standard Threepersons, which they also make. I own both.
I have a Cobra Gunskin holster that is also excellent. It's for K-frame guns with four-inch full lug barrels. I wondered why it was molded for full lug barrels and tried a M-686 in it. Very tight fit. I guess they knew about the M-617 and molded holsters for the full lug barrels on those. I wouldn't have thought the M-617 was popular enough for that, but I guess they disagreed.
Good luck on squirrels with that gun. I prefer Ruger's stainless .22 autos, but if your 617 works okay and shoots well, I think you'll be cooking some squirrel stews.
I admire your equipment. I guess you got the holster used, from your comment. I got a Safariland M-29, lined in green suede and basketweave stamped, about new, for $15 at a gun show. Another, for a six-inch barrel N-frame, was $40 from a different show dealer, but well worth it.
Good holsters and cases are a joy to own. One of my Boyt cases is made in China, but is of good quality. I also own a Cross pen made there that seems as good as US-made Cross products.

Sweetest Shooter
No doubt about it, not the prettiest, but this Model 21-4 .44 Special is the slickest shooting, easiest to hit with, gun I currently own.
When someone tells me they can't shoot double action, this is the gun I pull out to show them the way. It has always worked so far...

It's hard to say, but there are two Models 19 in the running. One is a 4" and the other a 2.5". Both have oddly smooth triggers and put lead on target like laser beams.
The 4" Model 19 is on the left.
Here is the 2.5" out in the Sandhills area of NC...looking for (but not finding) pine snakes. This 19 has taken a beating in the way of sweat and sand.

My favorite would have to be this 14-6. The trigger and accuracy for me is far superior than any of my other revolvers. The 617-6 ten shot, as someone else mentioned, would be a close second.

As a range gun, it's my 28-2.
It's a well used old gun. Great trigger, and accurate. Cocobolo Ahrends grip.
My sweetest shooting snub is my 31-1. Easier to shoot accurately than any other snub.

sweet shooter
I've posted this Model 64 on numerous other threads 'cause it's such a favorite. The DAO action is smooth as silk, and POA to POI with various .38 loads is dead on at 10 yards. So I'd have to say she's my "sweetest shooter"

My M&P340 has quickly become my favorite for carry.
But I have others that reach out there if needed.

My 625-3 Model of 1989, 5". Great shooter and even more fun. Swapped out the grips for these King's. Big difference in appearence and it points better.

This is it for me.
It's like the Stars aligned for making the whole package.
The sights are an odd anti glare style.
The grips came from a friend and work for me.
I shoot tiny clusters with it to ragged one hole groups.
I'm not that great a shooter but this one makes me feel like I could be.

Wow. "Sweetest shooter." That's a tough one.
Probably my 2016 vintage S&W 617.
Close competition: S&W 686+
And 686 six-shooter:

That's like asking which of my children I like the best!! I have a bunch of Smiths, and a bunch of Colts. I'm going to have to give it some thought. Also, what role the gun plays is a factor. For some things, my Model 63 .22 LR might be the sweetest.... But for other things, my Model 29 .44 Magnum might be the sweetest!! I
L get back with some pictures when I get off of work.
Best Regards, Les

I just have to post two. A revolver and a semi. Both were easy for me to pick as they are my two favorite guns that I regularly shoot. And they are the two guns I always use for my CCW requalify license.
The revolver is this Md 681. The trigger is fantastic and the accuracy is superb.
The semi is this early 4506. It feeds on anything and it always makes me feel like I'm a really good shooter!

My sweetest because it is a brand new 29/10 - I've only shot it 50 times but it is pure cane sugar.
MIM is really ugly though . . .

I tried, but I couldn't do it.....
It's a toss up between my 1978 vintage Model 17-3......
....or the 1984 vintage Model 19-5....
Original owner of both.......

If I could find another one, I'd probably buy it, simply because two are better than one. Please share pictures of yours.

At least you did not describe it as a "beater"! That is 1 nice looking Smith! Bob

It hasn't suffered long enough in my possession to be considered a beater, but I am working on it
So far its just starting to get a bit of a turn line, but if anyone is going to give it one it's going to be me.

I'm still relatively new to revolvers, but this gun very quickly became my sweetest shooter. I'm really not all that interested in auto's anymore. Except for second sweetest which would be a bennelli super black eagle, 12 gauge, but that would be in a different forum I think

My 19-2, which is just too much fun shooting 158gr magnums. I have not even shot any .38's in it.

I took all of mine to the range this week, except my 15-1. No matter what, my M69 just fits. The 686-6 3" is a close second, but the 4.25" in 44 just feels right. I have a feeling the new 2.75" M69 will be purchased within the next 6 months to compliment it.

That is the one I wish I had kept, absolutely the sweetest and most accurate .38 I have ever had, and I have had quite a few. I sold it to help fund a python. Hoo boy.

This is a hard question for me. But I guess the 2 that make the most trips to the range for me are these:
627-5 Pro
And my 629-3 Classic

My sweetest shooter is this '49 pre 14 (waiting on letter to confirm). The worn finish, beat wood targets, non-taper wide rib 4" barrel, patridge front sight and butter smooth action brings a smile when the plates on the rack drop six for six and ragged holes appear in the paper targets.
