Scandium J frame Gas Ring question
I have a J frame 360sc that has a separate ring (gas ring?) loose on the yoke when I take the cylinder off for cleaning. All my other S&W revolvers (K,N,J)don't have this ring loose on the yoke. Is this normal? The gun works great, I am just wondering about this loose part that the others don't have. I don't have a pic because I don't want to take it apart now. Thank you, Uvaldi.

Uvaldi,
No, that is not normal. The gas ring, if that's what it is, should be press fit into the yoke cavity in the front of the cylinder. Photos would members help determine exactly what the issue is.

Thanks for the reply..Pics below..maybe it broke loose from the PSYCHO loads I shoot in it. Buffalo Bore, etc..This firearm has been amazing the punishment it has taken for a 12oz .357. Just some loose screws (and ejector rod) that are loc-tited back on. Any info on the gas ring issue is much appreciated. Thank you, Uvaldi.

I would contact S&W Customer Service and have it repaired. The service should be covered under warranty. 1-800-331-0852

Interesting, most all of mine are loose fit and I've never known it to be otherwise or give me any problems.

If that gas ring is supposed to be pressed into the cylinder, why is it sold as a separate part? If someone buys part number 1463480 for $7.95, how are they expected to press it into the cylinder that's part number 1463730?
FWIW... the gas ring on the brand new M&P 340 that I purchased yesterday is NOT pressed into the cylinder and is a separate part.

It IS a separate part. Comes like that on my 360 and my 2 M&P 340s. Just be careful when cleaning the cylinder array not to lose it.
