Default Help! A new 637 in lockup!

Picked up a new 637. Dry firing in DA mode today, it locked up. The cylinder will not disengage, nor will it cycle. The cylinder latch is also immobile. There's about a quarter inch of play in the trigger but it doesn't engage at all. The hammer will not budge from the down position. Definitely tossing it back to SW for inspection and repair. Anyone care to venture a guess as to what these symptoms may indicate?

Is this one with the lock above the cylinder latch? Have you manipulated the lock a few times to see if that was it?

Check to see if your ejector rod backed out. Note that it is left hand thread.

My guess is the same as Peak53. The ejector rod may have backed out a little. Again, it's a left handed thread.

Congratulations on the new 637! I have one that I carry daily as mostly a bug, but if I'm working around the house it's always in my pocket.

It's broken, it doesn't work... Send it back. I hate to hear things like this. Man, somebody really goofed.

I sent my new 3" 686+ back to S&W because the trigger didn't operate the hammer. When I got it back, it was completely frozen as you describe. Returned it the same day, and it's been flawless since I got it back the second time. Don't remember what they did to fix it, but I remember new parts were involved. Good luck.
