Default 66-2 6" stainless with original wood grips

I live her in the NASHVILLE TN area. Wondering if there was any value to these revolvers now since it is a 6" barrel and was wondering if anyone has any interest in purchasing if the price is something I would want to accept ?

S&W 66-2 is a fine revolver, condition plays a big part in pricing. The shorter the barrel also has a lot to do with pricing. A 95% 6" goes for $450-$550, 4" maybe $600-$650, a 2 1/2" I've been seeing them around $800. There seems to be a big premium around here in Arizona for the snubbies. I don't see many 3" 66s so I didn't include them in the pricing.

This is a 98% pistol that has been stored for the past 30 years . I bought the y " barrel because at the time I thought it was more accurate . It is a tack driver for certain as I have been able to shoot the heads off of water snakes while swimming in our pond ! I thought it may have some value , but it appears not so much .

Don't give up on that fine gun so easily. Not everyone is into snub-nose revolvers so there is a market for that gun. Yes, the shorter barrels are more popular right now but if someone whose preference is for target shooting is looking for a gun, you have a prospective buyer.

In Cali any off roster in state privately owned gun gets a premium. If it was that easy to import guns there it would be a great cottage industry for someone.

builder1,

I went to a small gun show this morning here in Tullahoma. An individual seller had the exact Mod. 66 that you have described with a price tag of $650.00. He said that he could do better and I believe $600 or maybe $575 could have bought that firearm.

It was a 6" barrel with target grips, red ramp, etc.. A very fine revolver. I have owned one and sold it to buy a 686.

I think the 66 and 686 are two of the best revolvers around. I have both in all barrel lengths and shoot them often. No difference in quality to me, both have their merits. Full lug on 686 makes hot loads easier to handle.

Thicker forcing cone on the 686 will handle a lot more hotter magnum rounds than the 66. I have a 6" 66-2 Indiana State Police 50th Anniversary gun I shoot nothing but my hand loaded 38's in so forcing cone damage is a non issue. Did I mention it is an oh so fine shooter.

I bought a police trade-in Model 66 no dash with a 4” barrel and beat-up wood stocks. Over several years it got a variety of stocks until I discovered the perfection (for me) of the smooth, finger grip combat type straight from the factory as well as a fresh 6” barrel. This was my main revolver through the large ‘80s and ‘90s and never failed me. Then about 8 years ago I embarked on Project 616 and my faithful friend was rewarded with yet another barrel and a custom cut cylinder to become a 327 Fed Mag. About this time, I decided I really “needed” a 6” 357 after all, so I went out and got myself a 6” Model 686 no dash to add to the herd. I think I now have the best of all worlds, and specifically to the OP, a 6” 357 of either Model just “feels right” to me... I just wouldn’t want to be without one or the other. JMHO,YMMV!

They are both awesome. The 66 is more old school, the 586/686 family may be the best .357s ever made when all things are considered. They are the best of the 27s and the 19s/66s combined, and don't have any of the "bad points", not there are many bad points mind you.

If you are looking to sell that model 66-2, list it one forum here.

If you ask $650 plus $25.00 for FFL and shipping fees, someone will snag it if you put good pics up.

A pre-lock model 66 of any barrel length. Is very desirable.

They don't make them like this anymore.

That 66 would sell quickly on this forum in my opinion.
