Thai Grips
A set of Thai grips I orders off ebay for one of my S&W .357 snubs arrived today - via Germany!
The fit and finish are perfect, better than the set of Ahrens grips I ordered from Brownells at a much higher price. The checkering is sharp and clear and the figured wood (?) well finished.
I've got two sets of Hogue grips coming as well for other guns and I'm now wondering why I didn't order more Thai grips. The only differences will be the 'coke bottle' shape of the Hogues and the known quality woods.
We'll see .....

I've had mixed results with the 6 Thai made grips I've bought off ebay. Three sets were of awesome fit and finish. Two others were "OK". One was disappointing in every way. I believe it really depends on the particular vendor you deal with there.

As I recall(without going through two yars /hundreds of ebay purchases) the vendors I've had the best luck with were Juruwan.p and 8guns. Reddkultt also has some nice stuff.

I agree with the above about Jaruwan.p hardwood grips. Good fit and finish on my revolver.
However, their coating has a slight smell of "hotsauce?" and they are a little small for large "American" hands.

I bought a set of Jaruwan.p grips and could not be happier with the fit and finish. I don't know how they do it for $32/set. I recently bought a second set. Just too nice not to..

Juruwan.p is A1+ in my book. Communication is always great and prices are more than fair. All but one set fit perfectly and that one set only required minor fitting. He has even done a couple of "special orders" for me.

here are two grips from Thailand. One on my 586 and one on my Model 60
The fit is perfect and they feel good. I have not had good luck with Altamonte in terms of fit, that is why I tried the Thai grips. BTW, these are from Jarawan.

Jaruwan
Ok now I just ordered some too. I've been looking at grips as many of the guns I find have rubbers on them. I was skeptical of the Thai grips but am glad to see positive responses. I'm going to try a set on a model 10 and will post up when I get them.

I like photography, and that's a neat photo. Pushes the lens to resolve the level of detail.
This thread caused me to buy a set for my CZ; I don't have S&W revolvers, but have had some good luck with Thai grips before (got a nice set for my Beretta awhile back from someone else). A lot of those Thai makers are very good at this.
I'd love to find some Thai grips for my Sig P226. For whatever reason, most of those grips are approaching 3 figures, even from the vendors that otherwise make cheap ones.

"Any reason for the car radiator for a background?"
I was installing a radiator in a customers car that day,and thought it would make a great contrast. We all like pictures and I try to keep up the entertainment level.

At least you didn't take the standard cliche internet photo of your revolver, watch, and flashlight, with ammo laying around the gun. We need more radiator photos

I purchased all Thai grips for my k & n frames. I'm thinking if I ccw or go to the range I change the grips. I save the orginal grips there flawless. I also purchased n frame combat grips from the s&w store.

Got my Jaruwan grips a couple weeks ago. Had to clean up my 10-8 before it looked good enough for new grips. $35 shipped. A little bit of fitting.
Feel good in the hand. I like em!

Why, are all American grip makers booked solid for several years to come? Do you really think you'll get better quality overseas?

S.B. I purchased them to try something different. Many guns I find have rubbers and mostly people want $50-$100 or more for good originals and twice that for mint ones. I also have terrible luck as a consumer. I'm the guy that gets the defective toaster. After reading here a little I didn't want to be the guy that says I've got a drawer full of Ahrends, don't like em. Others may add their 2 cents.
P.S. I live near Culina but haven't tried any. I can buy a gun for the cost of a few sets.

My favorite grips are the Thai Jaruwans I have on my SP101. I like them so much that I just ordered some for my 686. Hope I like them as much.

I just bought a 27-2 that only has rubber Pachmayrs. There might be a set of those in my future. I like the Hogues for the X-frame on my 629-6, but I don't think I need rubber for an N frame .357.

I don't know who this Jarufella is, but I can't tell the fit from a few pics. The finish is very very good. The checkering leaves a lot to be desired. It looks like machine checking done in his lap. The line spacing is poor. The ends aren't finished. Plenty of flat top pyramids. I could go on and on. You get what you pay for.

This thread is much like the Altamont threads. While they may not be 500 dollar ebony made by the Michael Angelo they satisfy some peoples needs. If they do not meet (general) you standards, don't buy them.
Free will, and free choice is a great gift from God.
FTR I do not own any of the Thai grips, I do have mucho free will though.

You are 100% correct. They do leave something to be desired. while the checkering does not meet everyone's standards, they fit well and feel very comfortable while shooting with them. I, on the other hand have sent Altamontes back or sold them because they did not fit the frame well. Having nicely done checkering is of no avail if they are uncomfortable (sharp edges and stick off the frame). For what you pay for a Thai grip, they are worth it...half if not less than half of another maker. Besides, with my model 60, no one sees them when I carry. Simply comes down to choice and many of us choose to try the Thai's.

You make a valid point. What I see is a case were people take off their perfectly functional and comfortable rubber grips for attractive wood grips. These simply don't qualify. I have a set of Thai grips and don't use 'em because of the poor checkering. At some point, in the future, I will attempt to fix the checkering. As is, I call these the 3 foot grips. At 3 feet away, they look good, but once you're close-up, not so much.

It's all about choice and what fits your need.
I shoot and carry my firearms, no safe queens.
I have Hogue, Pachmayr and now Thai grips and I consider them all expendable and inexpensive to replace. They are comfortable to me and fit my needs. YMMV

I've got black wood (ebony-ish) grips from Thailand on my Model 60-4 As well as Project 616. When they first arrived I was very pleased with the fit and finish, but they seem to have dried out a little and drawn away from their respective grip frames. Still a good buy, but I'll have to do a little fitting to get them really right again. I'll still probably buy a third set for my 6" Model 686. Mine came from two different vendors (or at least different names) a long time ago, so it will be luck of the draw for my next set.
Froggie
PS No checkering on either pair so that is not a concern for me.

I have one set of combat style Thai grips that I ordered from Jaruwan P for my Ruger GP100. There is both good and bad.
The good is that you get to see photos of the exact set of grips that you are buying. Shipping was prompt and tracking information was provided. Delivery was as promised. The fit of the grips to the revolver was absolutely great, but the quality of the wood was so-so.
The main bad was that the grips were just way to thick for me, and I have rather large hands. Also, the finger grooves just did not fit my hand. Consequently, I have not been able to use these grips. I will have to say that the quality of the grips for the dollars spent is very good.

This is my latest set. It is also my last set! Had trouble with the grips. Then had trouble with the seller. Lack of communication (responding) & poor English. BUT....... I think they are cool! Had to make modifications. Buffalo Bone grips. Bob

Just got these Jaruwan.p grips. They are K frame round butt/square butt and the fit is perfect. I really like the wood grain and color..and the checkering is spot on. $35...with free shipping. Incredible. New camera is working nicely too.

I purchased a set of N frame round/square combat grips from jaruwan.p for $30.99 shipped.
Shipping was fast and the grips look nice, but the cutaway for the grip frame was WAY big and the gun just rattled around loose inside the grips.
I had to fabricate wooden filler strips to fill in the sloppiness in the cut away area.
I probably should have gone with Ahrends, but everybody on here said the fit was great.
Live and learn.

I got some of my Jaruwan.p grips for 20.99 shipped. The first set I got were too high on the backstrap to fully cock a target hammer, so I put those on my 67ND and ordered a different design for the M14-3 and pre-15. For some reason a lot of his grips were discounted right then, so I lucked out. Very happy with all of them.
