Model 29-2 in brushed nickel???
Ran across something I've never seen. 6 1/2 inch model 29-2 N 481xxx in brushed nickel finish. The frame is perfect but the barrel has a little more sheen than the frame. All numbers match and while I'm no expert it doesn't look like a refinish. All edges are sharp and clean as well as the stamped numbers. It is pinned and recessed. Gun is from a collector who is moving out of the country and I've bought a quality gun already from him, no junk. Is this just a shooter or something more. I have a hold on it till the end of the day. Help solve this mystery, thanks.

I had a few S S Metalife finishes applied in the past and there were some other finishes that looked factory like Armaloy.

Does it look like this 25-5? The guy I bought this from was sure it was brushed nickel too but I believe it to be hard chrome. Clearly a refinish, note hammer and trigger. Very durable but I wouldn't want to pay "original finish" prices for one. Good luck.

No it doesn't look like yours, good looking gun though. The gun I'm looking at has case hardened target and hammer.

S&W only offered the Model 29-2 in bright blue and bright nickel. Any other stainless-looking finish will be aftermarket.

Photos would help here, but it could be a dull polished original nickel gun or an aftermarket finish. What is the asking price?

S&'W did offer a flat matte nickel finish, briefly in the '90's, on certain J-frames (perhaps others). A decade after this M29 left the factory.

Well I guess its pretty clear that the finish isn't original. While its a nice gun its priced to high for a shooter @ $875. Time to find something else. Thanks

No one doubts that. It's the brushed matte finish that's in question, and the silver hammer and trigger which would be case color on a factory gun.

My brother picked up one of these with a 4" or 5" barrel I believe. Don't know if it is factory, but its a beautiful piece. The barrel also has the 'D' shaped magna porting. He picked it up for a song about 10 years ago, shoot not even a song he just hummed a little!
Either way good score OP.

As I noted above it does have the original case hardened target trigger and hammer. I attempted to pick it up at what I thought was fair offer price of $700 and seller is stead fast at $900. I think it will be seating on the shelf for quite awhile. Thanks every one for your input.
