Default Need help with 629-1 with shipping labeled shipping container

Hello Guys! I recently got a Smith & Wesson model 629-1 and looks to be unfired with the labeled shipping container, Box, UNOPENED presentation case, and papers/tools. My question is that I know that the early 629 no dash models came with the presentation case, labeled shipping carton, and 2 piece plain blue box. As you will see this one has the folding blue S&W box that is not labeled and where the serial number is there is a 1 at the end of the model number but it looks odd. Like S&W just stamped it in there. My question is if anyone has ever seen an example like this and how much is it worth and rarity? I know i have never seen one in this unfired condition nor so complete and cherry. Any insight would be appreciated!

Re: serial #896XXX

Per SCSW 4th edition:
N800000 1980-1983
N900000 1982-1986

629-1 was made 1982-1988. I'm going to guess your gun is about circa 1983? Pure conjecture. A letter would give an accurate date.

One-Piece containers/boxes were made 1983-1997

2-piece Blue Pangor Punta Boxes made 1966-1985.

About the time your revolver was made it looks like it was possible a 629-1 could have shipped in either a one-piece container or a two piece cardboard box as there was some overlap in their use.

Regardless, you have a beautiful gun.

It looks legit to me. I'm not sure how you could refute its legitimacy? The tiny BIG 5 SPORTING GOODS stickers look appropriately aged and legit too.

My initial gestalt regarding worth was about $1500 in a Gun Broker auction, maybe higher, assuming more learned S&W affectionados can confirm packaging is legit. The SCSW 4th edition lists $1000 for NIB and I suspect the more desirable 4" barrel and the more "complete package" with presentation case add significant value.

Wow, that is nice
I can't remember seeing a wooden presentation box that was still wrapped and unopened!
It's hard to know the value as it can vary quite a lot.
But the 4" barrel adds to the value, no doubt.

A package like that even temps me, and I already have several S&W .44 magnums!

Looks legit to me. The old style handwritten labels on a new style Bangor Punta one-piece box were not uncommon in that era.

Beautiful find.

The price tag on the box says $518.50. Assuming that was in 1983 and adjusting for inflation to 2017 that is equivalent to $1,292.54 in today's money.

This set would likely sell for double that on GB, making it a good investment for the original owner.
