Default S&W 17-6 Information

I have a S&W 17-6 22LR revolver that I am trying to find information on. It has a 6" full under lug barrel, with round butt wood grips with inletted finger groves, the gun is stainless steel with engraving on the barrel (both sides) and the same engraving on the cylinder flats. The serial no. is BEW-61XX. Any info would be appreciated.

I could be wrong, have been before, but I don't think the 17's come in stainless. Are you sure it is not a 617-something?

It is defiantly a 17-6 as that is stamped on the frame when you open the cylinder.

Please show us some pictures. Might be a refinish in brushed nickel or a mis-stamped gun because the 17-6 only came blued or nickel.

Or hard chrome?

It would help if we could see pictures if possible.

The engraving on the barrel doesn't say "The Revolver" does it? I know Ellett Brothers did a special run of 12 revolvers back in the day and one of them was a nickel 17-6 with that engraved on the barrel.

Also, I have seen nickel plated guns that were in bad shape and the nickel looked like SS.

I do not have any nickel guns so I can not say it is not nickel but I do have a 617 in SS and this gun looks just like it. The engraving is like a elongated swirl. I do not have a digital camera so no pictures.
