Finally found my bargain Model 10 - Grips Added
Was in the local gun store I frequent today and they were trying to move some guns my way. Had a $410 OTD 640-1, a nice 15-3 for $460 OTD and this little 10-7, Dept numbered, for $250 OTD. I offered $220 since my guy wasn't budging on the 15 or 640.
We shook hands and I finally have my bargain model 10. It cleaned up nice and there were no surprises under the grips. Shot very little, carried, but taken care of. I can't wait to shoot it on my camping trip this weekend!! Time to look for some cheap wood too, the hogues need to go.

I can't say I like pachmeyer grips in looks, but I sure like how they feel.
Now, I saw some wood with finger grooves. That is best of both worlds

Very nice indeed. A set of magna grips & maybe a Tyler T adapter & you have a winner.

Congratulations! Everyone needs a Model 10.
Looks just like mine. My favourite gun. And yes, some nice Magnas are in order.

You'll really like the way it shoots with those Hogue grips, but I agree a set of PC magnas are in order for looks! Nice score, by the way.

When in doubt, my default setting for K-frame grips is the smooth combats with finger grooves that were a factory option about the time your gun was made. They fit me as though ey were made for my own hand!

Factory combat stocks look and feel great. I put a set on this S&W 66-2 I gave to my son.
Grashorn stags look nice on a K frame too.

I agree, Goblin, even if it's a Model 64. I like the blue looks the best, but the SS Models have their own positives. Long live the Model 10!

Nice purchase. Mine is a 10-5, Tapered(skinny)bbl. Agree about Magna wood, now you can shop for extras. You need a few holster rigs, speedloaders and case. The gun show discount boxes have a lot of K frame recycled gear. Even a retired Border Patrol Style holster, cuff case and Black basketweave duty belt can be had for less $. Add your speedloaders and case. Mine is a Bill Jordan Holster with cant, and strap. Have a thumbbreak one too. 5$ each like new. You can use a little black shoeshine paste or liquid to cover nicks or fading.
Congrats on your buy. You have done well indeed!

Now why can't I find one that nice for that price? Any time I see one close to that price it looks like it's been in the bottom of a fishing boat for a few years, year'round!
Congratulations!

Thanks everyone! To make this deal even better, a fellow forum member reached out privately and said they would send me a set of k frame magnas that aren't perfect, FOR FREE.
I tip my hat to that member who will remain anonymous and the other members over the years that have enthused me to learn more, give more and be passionate about these pieces of history. Thank you all for the thumbs up and recommendations as well. I will get a range report in asap.

Let me say a word for the well worn Model 10 - excellent shooter! Not excellent looking but it was a Wells Fargo carry gun for a very long time.
I have a bunch of other Model 10s but this one seems to fit this thread nicely.

Wood is pretty, but those Hogue's are very comfortable to shoot. Shoot it a few times before changing them out, and see for yourself.

Congrats to the OP. Good gun at a good price. Is very similar to one I used to have- my daughter now has it ( & she shoots it damn well).
One of the classics IMO.

Now THAT'S what I'm talking about.
Gotta love the Model 10. I honestly don't think I ever read or heard a bad review on them. What a classic.
Take well care of it and it'll last many generations. Congrats again!

No, you didn't go overboard. I have Targets on all of my S&W revolvers (6) except for my M-631 that has Magnas.
Yours might be the best looking model 10 I've ever seen.

There's a pawn shop not too far from me that is always advertising some nice, vintage S&W revolvers at what looks like pretty fair prices. I've been meaning to swing by some day and see if there is a bargain to be had. Seeing your model 10 might have been the motivation I need to get off my butt and go.

Nice catch, I love those pencil barreled model 10s(M&Ps). Don't be too concerned with different grips, shoot it before changing anything.
