Default Range day with the 36-1

I had time to take my new to me Mdl 36-1 3" to the range. My first 50 rounds were Remington UMC 130gr FMJ.

The first hits, towards the bottom of the target, were me getting used to the long double action pull on the trigger. The previous owner had trigger work done by a well regarded gunsmith and the pull is smooth. It's just longer than I'm used to on K frame guns. After a couple of cylinders worth of shooting, I went to single action to confirm my suspicion that I was pulling down in anticipation of recoil. Sure enough, I was.

I went back to the basics of sight concentration, sight alignment, slow trigger pull, and don't flinching. That resulted in better groupings as well as better hits on the target.

After 50 rounds, I fired three cylinders of Speer Gold Dot "Lawman" 135 gr JHP. This is advertised as being designed for short barrels, and even though it's a 3", I think it will be what I end up carrying. The results are what you see in the head portion of the target. 14 hits and one that dropped down to the top of the 9 ring.

More range time is in order before I start to carry, so that's on the schedule.

Overall, it's just another case of a superbly made gun making a mediocre shooter look good.

A long awaited acquisition well worth the time and money.

LOL! No, that one is staying in the stable for some time to come. I have a Sideguard IWB holster on order for it.

Yeah, pics of gun and what distance were you shooting at? I'm just curious, no judgment if it was 1 yard.....

Right here!
I was shooting at 21 feet, which is pretty much where I do handgun shooting. My standard is usually anywhere on a 9" paper plate is a hit, but I figured that for getting used to the gun a bigger target was needed.

I'm just celebrating diversity. I have several K and J frame guns in addition to the 3rd Gens. You'll see my range report on the 3953TSW over in the semi auto forum.

I'm old enough that I learned on a Model 10 and have always like the K frame guns. Then I bought a couple of J frames and found those nice as well.

So, I have two Model 10s, a Model 13-4 3", and a Model 18. In addition to this 36-1, I have a 642 and a 351C.

Those K frames are just sweet shooting guns, no matter what caliber.
