Odd (?) 929 dent...
Hi all,
Quick question for other 929 owners... Do you happen to have a small dent, that looks like a hole punch dent near your locking ball? See attached pic...

I don't own a 929 or any other Smith that uses a yoke locking mechanism like that, but that looks like a deliberate stake put on it to keep the locking mechanism captive in the yoke to me. Now whether that is factory or Bubba that did that, I have no clue.

Looks like a punch was used to stake in the bushing holding the ball to prevent it from falling out, a normal procedure probably.

I have a 929 and it has the same dent.
Unless Bubba built both of our guns, I wouldn't worry!

It is a factory punch put there to stake the ball detent in place. If it wasnt there, there would be nothing to hold the detent in. Absolutely intentional and normal.

You just made me get up & go to the safe & check mine!. There it was, the little ding. Even on the Master Hunter that has the detent on the barrel. Good eyeball!

As has been said, the punch point is to secure the ball détente. The ball is a substitute for the old time locking mechanism in the underlug. That old time lock was a drag on the cylinder and occasionally failed.
