I've got a brand new 625-8 .45 ACP N-Frame revolver. The one with the red/white/blue wood grips.

I'm looking for a real good instructional DVD on these newer Smith and Wesson revolvers. It would need to be DVD quality. i.e. no "VHS" on DVD. And it has to be over the newer revolvers with the lock and the frame mounted firing pin.

Preferably, would like it if it would go over basic things to check on your revolver and how to check specs. i.e. with gauges, etc. to check if your gun is all in spec. And what other tools you may need.

Main thing I'm looking at is a good detailed disassembly and reassembly. Pretty much show you with close ups step by step how to tear the whole thing down and put it back together with the correct tools. Not worried about removing the barrel, or removing things that are pinned in.

High quality with close ups, and giving instructions on what not to do as well or what to watch out for. i.e. flying springs...

Also them showing you how to clean the whole gun while it is apart and what to use to re-lube in interior of the gun. And I guess also general cleaning for when you don't tear the whole gun apart.

What would be the best of some of those DVD's for that?

I picked up the AGI DVD, but that has poor VHS quality and they use the older revolvers.

Also, I'm planning on using M-Pro7 cleaners and oil to clean and oil my revolver. Not sure if I need something else with regards to the insides of the gun.

If you can not find DVD's, there are always You Tube videos that can be helpful. I have a 625 JM. I treat it like any other gun I own. I do not dis-assemble it. (only my bottom feeders come apart) Bob

I've found several different DVD's. Don't know which ones are good or not, and which ones use the newer revolvers, etc. lock and frame mounted firing pin.

I've got the CGI one. And it's old, i.e. VHS on DVD. And he's using the older style revolver. Plus I think it's kind of ******.

Figured there may be a couple that gets the best reviews.

I had wanted to stick with a DVD and something real easy to follow, done right, and it's all contained in one location. i.e. not going from video to video. I can look around later and post some of the DVD's I've come across.

I have found the current DVD from AGI is top quality high definition. Bob covers the revolvers from the early ones to the latest model frame generation revolvers. He covers cleaning, fixing problems that may occur on most models and most of the Smiths are pretty much the same and really has not changed significantly. I have found AGI is one of the best in the business for detail. Basically, it is an armorer course and covers what you require for do it yourself fixes. If you know how the gun functions, most of the time repairs can be easy if you go slow and rationalize how to resolve the problem. As far as cleaning supplies, you can't go wrong with Mpro-7 products.

It looks like Jerry Miculek has a trigger job DVD that also shows a complete disassembly and re-assembly. He knows what he is doing and i'd guess it's more current revolver.

With the 1,000's of videos that cover the process available on youtube for free, there probably isn't a very large demand for people who want to pay money for this type of video.

The thing I like about watching different youtube videos is that you get multiple perspectives, angles, insights, pieces of advice, etc. that would be hard to reproduce in one video. The only part of the process that requires much mechanical ability is getting the rebound slide out and back in. The rest of the process can be done with a screw driver and your fingers(at least that's how it works on my older revolvers...).

If your interested in a detailed guide on all the different specs and a detailed analysis of how everything interacts the Kuhnhausen Shop Manual is a great resource. I have one for 1911's and Colt revolvers and it covers everything you'd ever need to know.

The guy that owns midwayusa. He's put out some "youtube" type videos. And I really do like his style and explanation and closeups. Though don't know if his Smith and Wesson video is any good, or if he uses the pre-lock revolvers.

I had just noticed that AGI has two different Smith and Wesson DVD's, and I must have gotten the "older" one as it's VHS on DVD with just the older Smith and Wesson revolvers.

And can the M-Pro 7 be used on the inside of the gun? Will have to do more reading, but not sure if regular "oil" can/is used on the inside to lube it up, or if they use special kind of grease or something? Hoping the DVD's explain what all the lube on the inside as I'm sure there may be some places you shouldn't lube to keep it from gunking up or something like with the frame mounted firing pin.

Yes, you can use the Mpro-7 inside and out. A few drops go a long way. I use a Barber's shaving brush you can purchase on Brownells or Midway. A few drops on the brush to lightly coat the parts. I would use a drop of their grease on the rails on each side. The slide appears to be as slick as butter when cycling the slide. I would call them and ask for their Brochure which outlines how to clean and lube your firearm. I have a supply of them along with some samples to give to my students when the lesson on cleaning pistols in the Basic pistol course.

On videos I'm going to get the On Target video and the newer AGI Smith and Wesson video. And hopefully they use the newer Smith revolvers with lock and frame firing pin. So I can follow the whole thing on disassembly and reassembly.

I do hate that lock hole and wish Smith and Wesson would at least offer a stainless steel version you could buy and install so it would minimize that black hole look to it. Though would be better to just do away with it, but doubt that will ever happen. Other than the couple models without it they offer.

I'm going with the M-Pro 7 as I'm doing this inside and can't have any strong odor. Also I've read that their oil will still be working if you sat your gun in a drawer and came back to it a year later. Plus I've read their oil makes future cleaning easier.

I got that On Target DVD in. I briefly forwarded through it to get an idea of the video. And it looks like a good quality low res disassembly/reassembly and cleaning instruction video for Smith and Wessons revolver.

Though it uses an older revolver with no lock and older style hammer.

I'm also going to pick up that newer AGI Smith and Wesson video to check that out. Hopefully that one uses a newer revolver with the lock and frame mounted firing pin.
