Default M-69

Groo here
I got my 2.75in Today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Checked the forcing cone yes their short.[ only shooting will tell]
The single action is crisp.
The double action heaver but smooth [ as you expect on a new gun]
Grips , I don't know , need some full power shooting.[ working up on this one]
Sights , time will tell.[at least the front sight is pined]
As I am partial to 3in guns , this fits right in.
All in all-------SWEET============

I’ve had mine for two weeks. Had it out 10 times and have shot a little over 400 rnds. Sixty or seventy percent of those have been full .44 Mags. I replaced the factory grips with S&W X Frame 500 Hogues because the factory grips don’t work for me under magnum recoil.

The forcing cone on mine actually looks slightly deeper than I would call normal. Single action trigger pull is a bit heavy but works well for me. Lock up is good. Couldn’t find my feeler gages, so don’t know about cylinder gap.

My gun has been a bit picky when it comes to what loads it shoots well. For example, yesterday I loaded some test rounds with 260 gr SWCFB over 6.5 gr of HP38. Two different seating depths (one crimped in crimp grove, the other over the front drive band). Had to shoot at 50 yds as the 25 yd range was being used. Put two standard rifle targets, one on top of the other at 50 yds and shot 5 rounds of the deep seated rounds. There were two holes, one on each target about 10” apart. Shot the second group with those that were seated normally – four were on the bottom target scattered over about 9”. Aim point was top center diamond for both groups and the gun was rested over my range bag. Figured I was having a really bad day, or something was wrong with the gun. Loaded up 5 rounds that had previously shot real well at both 25 and 50 yards and shot this group. POA was large diamond on left. The red insert front was washing out a bit in the shooting light conditions and may have contributed to the vertical stringing (or not?).

I’ve found two loads that my gun likes. The one pictured above (260gr WFNGC, 23.0gr H-110, Fed 155 Match, New Top Brass). Bullet from Montana Bullet Works.

The other is 6.5gr of HP38 under 240gr coated SWCBB from Bayou Bullets, CCI 300s in mixed cases.

Here are some chronograph results:

Chronoed these from the 2.75” M69. Three rounds at 5 Long paces from muzzle and 68 deg F. Larger sample could change the results a bit. Largest ES was 42 fps.

260 WFNGC w/23.0gr H110 avg 1,125 fps
240 Zero JSP with 23.5gr H110 avg 1,126 fps
240gr Fed Factory avg 1,125 fps
265gr CSWCGC (Lyman Thompson) with 17.5gr A2400 (Deep Seat) 1,119 fps avg
325gr WLNGC (BTB) with 22.0gr H110 avg 1,104 fps

For comparison purposes these were shot a while back from a 4 ¼” M69: Same temp, distance from the muzzle.

260 WFNGC w/23.0gr H110 avg 1,224 fps
240 Zero JSP with 23.5gr H110 avg 1,230 fps
240gr Fed Factory avg 1,220 fps
265gr CSWCGC (Lyman Thompson) with 17.5gr A2400 (deep seat) 1,140 fps avg
325gr WLNGC (BTB) with 22.0gr H110 avg 1,182

The more I shoot this little gun, the more I like it.

Can’t wait to hear your impressions.

I got mine last Friday & really like the feel too. Solid but balanced.

My SA felt "factory" normal but I was surprised when I measured it & it was 6#s. Polished things up & put a Wolff 14# rebound spring in (cut 1/2 a coil off) & now it's 3#.

I took the factory "imitation Hogue grips" off right away (they are always uncomfortable to shot) & put the Badgers on for show but I got some Pachmayr Diamond Pros for range day to use on it.

The forcing cones on my 2 & 3 piece barrel guns have always been smoother & have a better transition to the rifling than the one piece barrels. I like them better.

I cleaned up the muzzle burrs, left from the installation tool, with my 45 degree chamfer tool.

Hopefully I can get to the range this week.

Here's a couple rough pics of it.
