Default How much for a Model 63-4 5-inch 22LR?

Hi all.
I just forked out Cdn $725.00 (delivered), USD $533.00, for a mint condition S&W 63-4 22LR 8-rd stainless revolver. How did I do?

I think you did ok. They great albeit expensive (for a .22) guns. I think you'll really enjoy it. They shoot very well.

That is a very fair price for one of the scarce, out of production 5" model 63s. It would go for $100-200 more down south. Enjoy!

S&W revolver prices are crazy, but it's not like you're buying a perishable item. I don't stay on top of market values, but don't think you did bad either. The Model 63 is a sweet gun and is worth owning.

I have 2 of them I liked them so much. One pretty much stays in the safe. The other is a shooter, and have killed it's share of squirrels, rabbits, and copperheads. You did good on the price I wouldn't sell either one of mine for less then $800.

Islandguy:

$533 for a MINT Condition M63 is unheard of these days. Even examples in good to excellent condition have been selling for more than that in my neck of the woods. You did incredibly well - love to see some pics!

I paid around $700 + for my 4" w/adjustible sights and absolutely love shooting it. I sold my M&P .22C to help finance this purchase. You did very well, congrats and happy shooting.

Thanks for the positive comments folks. Here it is. It was shipped today and is expected to arrive on or before May 31st (if our postal service does its job). Will post a range report after I try it out.

If it shoots as good as the 2 I have then you will be very happy. All you need is a Simply Rugged Sour Pancake holster to go with it. You can wear it strongside or crossdraw, I prefer crossdraw. It keeps me from bumping my hunting rifle if I have it slung over my shoulder. And is easy getting in and out of a vehicle or riding ATV's. Mine has taken squirrel, rabbit, copperheads, and finished off a few deer also. Here is my $300 shooter I got a few years ago with box and docs. Pictured on top of its holster. Enjoy Travis

Travis,
I've never been disappointed by a S&W revolver yet. Really looking forward to my first range outing with the 63-4. No sidearm open or concealed carry is legal up here unless one possesses an-almost-impossible-to-get permit, so I'll only be carrying it holstered on the range. I have a spare Uncle Mike's that will do nicely. That's one seriously good deal at $300. Well done!

Canadians regrettably are not allowed to carry pistols so a holster is pretty much useless for him. Also he needed the 5" as a 4" is under the length limit currently allowed by Canadian law. Much like when I used to live in New York places with strict gun laws tend to have much lower prices especially on used guns since it is such a headache to purchase and go through the registration process required.

islandguy with the right types of grips you will be amazed with the accuracy of your 5" 63-4. Mine gets shot more then my 6" 617-2, 18-4, and 3" 63-5. But I do have an Outdoorsman that came home recently that could nudge it out. And I'm sorry you can't carry, that's why I have other 63's for my girls to have when they are out in the woods with me. And I did steal that one the other one was close to $700. So averaging them up I have 2 5" 63-4's for $500 a piece. So you are right in the ball park.

Had it out to the range yesterday and am very impressed so far. I haven't shot any handgun in 8 or 9 months, so my first target was more of a pattern, but once I started to pay attention, it kept 16 rds inside 3" for me at 50 feet on the second one. Both targets were shot DA. Haven't tried SA yet. Love the balance, sight picture (with my new shooting glasses), and the trigger pull. I think I'd do better with the old S&W factory target grips like those on my wife's 22/32 Target. Here's my second target and the two safe-mates together.

[QUOTE=islandguy;139615095] I think I'd do better with the old S&W factory target grips like those on my wife's 22/32 Target.

There's a gentleman Tom K has some herretts target grips still new in the package for $32. I have a pair and they fit my hand better then the j frame targets. But my daughter immediately claimed them for her 3" 63 so there's another set in the mail for me.He's excellent to deal with.
