Default 686-3

My efforts to walk into a LGS and come out empty handed had been successful until about two weeks ago. One of the nicest LGS in our area had several S&W revolvers on consignment from the estate of a former police officer.

There was a 686-3, 4" in the group that I first thought was a "-4" but, no matter. I haven't seen a nice preowned "- anything" in a while.

The price, IMO, was Gander Mtn. retail plus so, I made an offer. The LGS checked with the surviving spouse and finally called me last week to say the offer had been accepted. "Dang it and yea!",at the same time. Anyway I have attached a photo of it this one with it's 2.5" stable mate and yes, the pachmayr grips are being replaced with a pair of speed loader, cut out, S&W grips, thanks to a deal from a forum member.

Congratulations on your purchase. Snub is cool too! I have a 4" 586 no dash, a 686-3, 6". My 2.5" is a 66-2. All perform well. Enjoy them! Bob

The 686-3 is now wearing the proper grips so, here is a group shot of it, in the middle, with the 6" "no dash" and the 2.5", -4.

Range report. The 686-3 and its companion exhibited flawless performance and excellent point of aim accuracy. The load utilized 158gr. hollow points in both .38 special and .357 magnum with an appropriate load using Tite Group.

Head shots were not problem at the 10 yard line. This was the limit due to recent heavy rains at my LGS outdoor range. Hitting rocks at 25 yards was no problem.

You beauty, congratulations jdlii!

I have enough 686's and 586's, so I limit my gun store visits. Sometimes.
