Question Too much?

Model 66-4, 2.5", RB, magna stocks. Overall excellent to like new, no box for $749.00. Looking at about $785 OTD.

It is on the high side but some collectors think the dash 4 is the best dash number which might justify it for them. Dash 4 is the vintage that combines forged internals and factory drilling and tapping for optics. I do not see the point in paying a premium for the threaded holes under the rear sight on a snub nose. An older dash number will get you flash chromed internals which stops sweat from rusting them. To me that is of more value on a snub.

Since the 3" versions are going for over $1200 that seems about right. High to me but cheap compared to 3"

Higher than I would pay but that is because I am not that big a fan of stainless. It does seem to be in line with prices of S&W's in general these days. How often are you going to find one in the same condition? I can't remember the last time I've seen a 2.5in Model 66.

I purchased my lightly used 66-4, 2-1/2" barrel from a fellow forum member about a year ago.

Paid $775 with Pachmayr's and some extras - speed loaders, speed strips, second set of Pachmayr's, aftermarket magnas, snap caps. I was thrilled to find a 66-4 in this condition at the price offered.

In my personal opinion, I think the aesthetics of the -4 engineering change offers the best of the Model 66 line, especially when viewed along the top strap. YMMV........

Never owned a 66. At the March gun show, I saw a 66-2, 2.5" Seller was asking $795. It ended up being mine for $725 OTD. No box or papers. I can live with that. Has new stocks on it now. Bob

I don't believe it is too high in very good condition. (95% and up)
