Default Centerfire model 64 with interesting markings

Just picked up my two model 64s this afternoon that I ordered from Centerfire. One was a 64-5 and the other a 64-6. The 64-5 has the barrel marked .38 S&W SPL. +P and is stamped Indiana State Police on the RH side. I didn't notice it when I picked it up as I thought it was the S&W logo and the Pachmayr grip covered some of it. I removed the grips and there is also a series of letters and numbers inscribed on the LH grip frame ASP 10006. It is also a round butt. Interesting! Sorry about the crummy lines in the photos..I think my 15 year old Casio camera may finally be dying..

That's cool. Congrats. Mine only had the number 11 stamped on it.

Cooler than a fan. A Hoosier like me would give a premium for that.

I think it's pretty neat! I came "oh so close" to ordering one of those, but having just paid for a 15-2, I was feeling the bottom of my pocket. I know own I'll regret it later, but I have my own rule, "no gun buys with plastic money", so I stuck to my guns. lol!

Yes,the 64-5 has a serrated backstrap. The 64-6 does not.It also does not have a firing pin on the hammer. The 64-6 does have W.H.S.P. stamped under the cylinder on the LH side. I can't take a picture as my 25 year old camera has officially died.

My 64-5 is / was a Phoenix police exchange. With ~150,000 64's traded in across the country, there's going to be umteen mixed names, ID scratches and stampings over the entire lot.
Glock has done the same with their 19's and 22's. My 22 is from the Fulton County Ga. correctional system. Interesting to guess their history and most were only shot during qualifying. Never have had a problem with trade-ins.

The 64-6 is very fresh with just handling marks.I guess by that time in the 64 series the Glock revolution had taken over...and revolvers were pretty much "useless" for self defense. Makes me almost laugh today.. Almost.

Makes me wonder why my 64-5 isn't marked +P. After a few minutes with a cylinder reamer, it's now a 357 model 64 so the missing P doesn't mean much. I've rarely put 357's in it, just wanted the option if the need arose.
