Default S&W model 19-5 6" value (LNIB)

Question on a S&W I just aquired, it is a model 19-5 nickel with a 6" barrel, I have the box with matching serial number and papers included in it, .357 mag of course and 1982 manufacture. It was claimed as "unfired" and outside of maybe firing at the factory I tend to believe it, it was a gun stored in the box and safe, and outside of a faint turn line, it is pristine.

What would something like this be worth?

Thanks,
Adam

I will get photos up this evening.

I bought just about that exact gun about 10 years ago for $410. One of the best shooting guns I've ever had. The -5 gets little respect around these parts (S&W forum). Nevertheless, I'm going to go out on the proverbial limb and guess a value of about $750. Some places might be somewhat higher.

Just noted that you were located in CA. My guesstimate was for the free states. You can probably bump it up $100 or more in that area.

The SCSW (Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson) 4th edition lists the following values:
ANIB $700
Excellent $600

I think the nickel would be a plus and if it's in California that's probably going to elevate the price. In my opinion the SCSW under prices the Model 19. I could see a package as you describe going for $800+ in California.

There's a gun store near here that has that exact model, used, but excellent condition, with Pachmayr grips, for $575. If it was a -3, I'd own it.

$750 is in the ballpark for new in box. Condition and paperwork, accessories ,etc.. would have a bearing on value....
