SW 640pro or SW M65 3" round butt
They are close in size, but M-65 one more shot and near 10oz.more weight. On the belt owb I notice no difference.

I have a 640 Pro and love it. The lighter weight and better sights are what I like. I carry strips to reload..the 5 vs 6 shots are not an issue with me.

640 Pro for carry, 65 for nightstand. Life is good when you have both!

If you don't notice a weight difference, on your belt, then the choice is easy!
As for me, it would be the Model 65!

You must have one heck of a belt to not notice the 10 oz. weight difference! My preference would be the 640 Pro for CCW. As a non LEO, living in a fairly safe area and staying out of known bad areas, I feel adequately armed with the small J frame.

I personally shoot a K frame much better than the J. For me hands down, the 65! 3" is very desirable. Only my opinion though. Bob

Your pics sure make them look a lot closer in size than what I'm thinking. I just know the trigger guard on my K frame seems like it's not even close to fitting into my J frame holster.
Really nice revolvers!!!

Can't go wrong with either. I partial to the 640 because it's my carry gun and it does it's job well. That being said I love the K frames and wish I had a 65 to go along with my 64 and 66. So both??

I bought my 360PD AirLite for super lightweight carry, and my 640 Pro Series to shoot:
I'm excited to have just won at auction a collectable carry gun, a K frame like your model 65. It's a 547 in 9mm and has been no safe queen:
If it was too nice I'd be afraid to carry it, or even shoot it if it was NIB.
I have to pay and they have to ship before I see it in hand, but I plan a make over and refurbishment if needed.
I'll soon have a threesome of S&W frame models J, K, and L!

Be carefully of bullet jump. Hornady makes a crimped 9mm defence load for wheel guns.

Suitable 9mm revolver ammo

One of the reasons I bought the 547 was that I'd be able to use my standard 9mm defensive ammo which is Hornady Critical Defense. I'm hoping that this will hold bullet seating in the 547.
Does anybody have experience with this ammo in revolvers?

Having owned both I would say the 640Pro for carry just because of all the options a smaller gun offers, but if you like going to the range and showing off your targets, the 65 will give you much better results at distance.
I also really like the looks of the 640Pro with it's fluted barrel and great sights.

The 640 Pro is hard to beat for carry, if you can be comfortable with the weight. The night sights are the best I've experienced in a J frame.
But if I want to get results at distance I'll go big with an L frame in .44 Magnum:
Surprisingly it can be carried concealed with a cheap fabric pancake holster cut to fit:
The 547 will be a middle ground in carry size and weight. I'd like to carry it AIWB like my J frames but the extra inch of barrel may be uncomfortable when sitting.

Yes I carry it now and then with the 240swc at 1000fps in a special case. Mild ,but potent medicine . WITH button down cotton short sleeve you cannot tell it's on and not to heavy@ all!

With a good belt a Model 65 is not that heavy. The 640 would be easier if you ever went to IWB though.

A good gunbelt can carry about anything with comfort. The M65 3" is not even noticed.A Glock G-19 can carry as well as any of the above with 2-3 times the firepower in truth on the belt.

I have both a 65 3" and a Glock 19. I have a Simply Rugged pancake and beltman belt which carries the 65 well. But if I'm going to carry that much weight and gun it might as well be the G19. I live in Texas and lazy so often I carry a LCP or LCR .

Model 547 has arrived ...
After much anticipation my 547 finally came in. The condition far exceeded my expectations and is nearly flawless. It's still going to be a shooter and carry gun. I just have to handle it carefully to maintain it's pristine condition.
I put some Pachmayr Compact stocks on it and it feels great in hand. Very well balanced with the 3" heavy barrel.
I've been carrying it AISW and it's not a problem. Although it is half an ounce heavier that my 17+1 915 it points well and will be my primary carry gun with the 915 also along as a NY reload.

The 640 pro has a two piece barrel. And 3 inch revolvers seem the rage these days. Used 3 inch guns seem to get a premium on the market. Why the hell S&W won't offer a 3" barrel, 640 pro is beyond me!
If they did, I might have to find a way to save some money to buy me one!

The 640 pro does NOT have a 2 piece barrel. It's 1 piece, 2-1/8", and fluted.
