Default Local Gun Store Find!

Walked into my one of my local gun stores Friday and the owner pulled me aside and said" look at this". A new in the box 1984 vintage S&W 651 with a 4" barrel. Box and papers but no cleaning kit. HOW MUCH? was all I could say. Sadly left without the gun. I sat on the sofa all weekend and thought about that little gun. I called yesterday to see if it was still there and to my suprise it was. I rushed out of the house this morning in a driving rain to the store and after some "dickering" walked with this beauty for $700.00.
What do you think?

Remember, "need" is a distant #4 on the list of reasons for retail purchases. Want," of course, is way up there. My obsession with pocket guns would prevent me from buying this gem, but I'm happy it was still there for you. Good shooting!

What a neat pistola.

Can you shoot .22lr with it, or do you need a different Cylinder?

Isn't it amazing how guns have such a pull on our strings? Looks like new and we have a weak spot for new things. I had to quit looking.

A .22LR cylinder would be needed. The mag case diameter is quite a bit bigger.

No dash square butt with box. WOW, you did better than real good. How sad you would have been if it had already sold. Congratulations and enjoy. You are going to get it dirty aren't you?

So the 651 is .22 mag only ??
What is the mdl. number of the similar model that WAS supplied with both .22 mag and .22 lr ??

Nice package by the way. (All that worrying makes it sweeter.)

The M651 was offered with an auxiliary 22lr cylinder in its early production. You could buy just the M651 or for a higher price you could get it with the 22lr conversion cylinder. I might be wrong, but I think back then that you could send your M651 back to S&W to be fitted with the 22lr cylinder.
