Default Facelift and Range Test for Model 18-4

My factory/period-correct S&W service grips and my B.K. Grips T-type grip adapter came in and were installed on my Model 18-4. Looks great. Next I took it to a nearby indoor range for a short tryout. I had 5 different .22LR cartridges from Aguila, CCI, Federal, MagTech and Remington. The Aguila was a 40 gr. HV solid, the CCI and Remington were 37 gr. HV HP's and the Federal and MagTech were 40 gr. SV solids. My best 5-shot group from a rest, using SA, at 10 yards, measured 1.25" with Aguila. Others ran from 1.68" to 2.08". I then shot at a small silhouette target at 7 yards using the 5 brands of ammo, 5 shots each, DA, in a two-handed isosceles stance. All but 3 shots stayed inside the red oval 10-ring. The SA pull was typical S&W...crisp. The DA pull was smooth and even. This truly is a .22 Combat Masterpiece!

You will likely find it far more accurate when using standard velocity ammo, and stretching the range to 50 feet minimum is where the accuracy of these guns really shines

My problem that day was the range I was using is limited to about 10 yards. I'm looking forward to getting it to my usual outdoor range. If the rain will stop long enough!

That is super hot. The grips look great and good shooting. How much was the BK grip and did it take long to get? Do you have a link for them? I could get one for my Model 19 if I want to use the magna grips on it.

bkgrips.com They have been on this Forum before. The adapters cost $25.00 and they ship Priority Mail, so I've received them a couple of days after placing the order.

Engine 49 Guy. From what I understand from the serial number and info from some real collectors...my Model 18-4 was made in 1982 which was the first year Smith stopped making the pinned barrels, so I guess mine is a transitional model?
