Default What kind of grips are these???

I have a beautiful S&W model 27-2. It came with these grips on it. What are they made out of? They are very solid and are heavy compared to my Altamont grips. They have a kind of grain to them also. Any ideas?

I don't have an idea but I like them. The top looks like a tusk, tooth, or horn. But the bottom looks more like a plastic or polymer..but refer to my first sentence first. Just my .02 cents.

There are many sites on Bing which discuss ivory identification. With the grips in hand you should be able to work it out.

I believe Dr.Lou nailed it. If he is correct what you have there is the perfect retirement investment. Guard it wisely.

If they are not ivory they could be like mine, shown below.
These are called Polymer Ivory. Got them from Ajax Custom Grips
10 or 11 years ago. The revolver is S&W model 29 .44 magnum.
The holster was made by Chisholm's Trail.

PS I don't believe Ajax is still in business?
