I have a smith model 19-5 six inch ser#AYL38XX what year was it produced please?
bought this last night, has the very lightest ring mark on cylinder, man said pistol was owned by his dad who passed away supposedly has had 30 rounds shot. box is kinda ratty but pistol is 98% plus in my book. year an possible worth on todays market please?

Three letter prefixes are hard to pin down but the 3rd edition of the SCS&W would indicate early 1988.

Model 19-5's were introduced in 1982 and Model 19-6's came out in 1988 so I think I got you close.
