586 GIGN
Hello all. I'm back onto the forum here after a several year hiatus. Did a search on here for "GIGN" and the most recent thread I could find is from Feb of 2016, so I need to pick some brains for more recent info.
My question is, I have one of the guns that shipped to RSR with the "BCH" prefix. I bought it brand new when I worked at a gun shop and it's been an unfired safe queen ever since. It's completely untouched, and I was thinking it might be time for it to find a nice home. I've been sitting on it for quite long enough!
Was wondering if you guys might have seen any up for sale/know of any that have sold recently and how much they went for. In one of the older threads somebody mentioned selling theirs for $1k and I'm thinking they would fetch a good bit more than that these days.

Prefix BCH appears to be from 1989, and the single published reference to a GIGN 586 lists it as a -4, which started production in 1993 (product code 170170). Is yours a -4, do you have the box with this code, or is there something about that makes you suspect it was a factory overrun of this model?

Thanks for the welcome back!
Product code on mine is 170206, and is a -7. What makes me think it's part of the overrun is our RSR sales rep relaying to me that was the info he was given from Smith & Wesson when they received the guns. Does not have the GIGN crest. I saw in some of the older threads on them that supposedly 75 were from the overrun, but somebody had a factory letter saying there were 80 BCH prefixed guns? Mine was one of only two of them that I ordered from RSR.
Think I should get it lettered? How much are they charging for that & what's the turnaround time these days?

I had a gun lettered a couple months ago. Only took 3 weeks and $75. I did see a post where BCH range BCH0001 - BCH0080.

I have one BCH 001x is a -7,only labeled with performance center / caliber on the barrel and under cylinder release. Shot very little as it is extremely loud with the ported barrel!

Smith and Wesson had to use up the extra barrels from the original run (they expected a re-order).
That is why there is no GIGN markings on the later guns since they were not an overrun of the GIGN order, but an overrun of the original barrels.

They sport a ported 4" barrel and a round butt frame, patterned after the special order guns for the French police. They were for some special branch which I don't remember but that's what the GIGN stands for.
I owned one and it was an interesting revolver but not the end all be all. Mine was a -7 also and had one of the heaviest DA triggers I had at that time every experienced on a S&W. I got it used and shot it some but eventually traded it or sold it. Can't remember which now. (getting old ain't for the faint of heart - lol)
To the OP, I wouldn't pay anything over $1000 but I'm not a collector, just a shooter.

GIGN, right up there with GSG-9, top notch anti terrorist units!
Has been a while since I've read about them, so thanks for bringing this up.
I remember when I first heard about them, in the early 1990, and being surprised at their love for the revolvers, in the tactical environment.

Based on news videos lately I don't believe they are carrying revolvers anymore.

Once I figure out how to do it, I'll gladly post some pics of it. On the older threads Smithnut had posted a pic of a clutch of them he had with some beautiful wood grips on them.
Dave-thanks for the info on them using up barrels. Mine has a power port with a front night sight, which from what I've found was the actual barrel they used for the GIGN guns. I think it's a great looking gun, and never really intended for it to be a safe queen, but that's how it ended up. I'm not a collector either, but I figure it would be a nice piece for somebody who is. I have the outer cardboard box (complete with a sticker that has the log number I signed in into our FFL book) and the bubble wrap for the metal case. I'm guessing if I looked I'd find my original receipt among all my boxes & boxes of gun stuff that's been moved from place to place and never properly unpacked.

When these first came out, the distributor indicated that the factory made 150 total, and that 75 were released to US distribution (that's what I remember anyway ).
On an old thread some time back someone indicated that the guns shipped to the GIGN had special markings, never seen any pics so I cannot tell you what the markings were.
The US distributed guns only had the PC logo, as mentioned above.
One of the coolest M586 models made IMO. They came with Uncle Mikes grips as I recall, didn't do them justice..

Looks like a good match with SmithNut's examples, congratulations! Something else I can now say I have seen, at least in photos.
Interesting how the label states it has both an 8 3/8" and 4 1/4" barrel . Enjoy!
