Won't be brutal with standard weight (240) 44 Loads. The word "Snappy" comes to mind! Start out with 44 Spl loads and work up!

I reload for most calibers that I shoot. I plan on reloading for 44 Special.

I think you'll be favorably impressed by the recoil generated by the 2 3/4" M69. Mine 2 3/4" gives roughly 100 fps less velocity vs. the same gun with a 4 1/4" bbl. This reduced velocity tends to moderate recoil a bit.
My 2 3/4" M69 is very accurate with loads it likes. Here's group I shot rested over my range bag at 50 yds. This is not a fluke and has been verified two different times at 25 and 50 yds.
Here are some chronograph results:
Chronoed these from the 2.75” M69. Three rounds at 5 Long paces from muzzle and 68 deg F. Larger sample could change the results a bit. Largest ES was 42 fps.
260 WFNGC w/23.0gr H110 avg 1,125 fps
240 Zero JSP with 23.5gr H110 avg 1,126 fps
240gr Fed Factory avg 1,125 fps
265gr CSWCGC (Lyman Thompson) with 17.5gr A2400 (Deep Seat) 1,119 fps avg
325gr WLNGC (BTB) with 22.0gr H110 avg 1,104 fps
For comparison purposes these were shot a while back from a 4 ¼” M69: Same temp, distance from the muzzle.
260 WFNGC w/23.0gr H110 avg 1,224 fps
240 Zero JSP with 23.5gr H110 avg 1,230 fps
240gr Fed Factory avg 1,220 fps
265gr CSWCGC (Lyman Thompson) with 17.5gr A2400 (deep seat) 1,140 fps avg
325gr WLNGC (BTB) with 22.0gr H110 avg 1,182
Some .44 special loads
Tried these .430 Zeros over 9.0gr of Hodgdon Universal. Max load on Hodgdon’s online data is 10.2gr with 240gr Nosler Jacketed, so the usual cautions are in order. Shot very well in the 2 ¾” M69 at 25 yds rested over my range bag. The one (xed out) on the lower right was my bad. Didn’t chrono or compare to .431s. Just a guess, but these are probably running around 950 fps +- in the 2 ¾” bbl. The HP38 loads in the second photo are definitely slower and are very comfortable to shoot.
Here are some lighter loads that didn’t shoot quite as well but should be serviceable and would probably tighten up with some tweaking.
These were deep seated to .44 special OALs in .44 Magnum cases. Bayou’s at 1.515” OAL. Berry’s also at 1.515”.
The 2 3/4" M69 and it's longer brother are WINNERS in my book.

M69 Combat Magnum snubnose
I've really enjoyed shooting mine too. Got about 350 various loads thru mine so far, mostly using moderate speed powders & 240gr bullets, but a handful of near max loads using 2400.
With my hottest loads you definitely get some "rise" but it's very manageable. I like the Pachmayr Diamond Pro grips on it a lot. Not too big & bulky but "cushie" feeling. Surprisingly very accurate & consistent at the distance I shoot.

( It compliments my other snubnose compact 44s well. )

Did you take that before you shot it? I have yet to find a good way to remove the black rings on the end of the cylinder. I have used the non scratch version of Scotch pads and Hoppes which got the rings off but also left some very fine scuff marks. I normally just live with the rings.
I just got a Packmayr Diamond Pro grip for my 69 a few days ago. It feels great but I have not shot it with the new grip yet.

Any fairly light 44 magnum is going to kick but it was not as bad as I thought it would be.
I treat my 69 as a very strong 44 special revolver that can also handle full power 44 magnums on occasion, not a gun made for a steady diet of strong magnum loads. The limitation is my ability to handle recoil, not the strength of the gun itself.
I have the 4 inch version and have quit reloading so I no longer have the option of loading any power level I want. Mostly I shoot weak ammo made for cowboy action shooters and a mid-power load rated at 1000 fps with a 240 grain bullet. I typically shoot more of the mid power stuff than the cowboy loads. I find one or two cylinders of full power magnums is all I care for. More than that and I tend to start shooting poorly. Sometimes I skip shooting the full power stuff completely. But recoil is very subjective and there are people that rarely shoot anything except full power ammo.
I bought the 500 grips from S&W when I bought the gun and they provide some needed padding. I just put a set of Packmayr Diamond Pro grips on and they feel great too but I have not had a chance to shoot the gun with the new grips. Grips are cheap, if you are concerned about recoil replacing the hard rubber grips that come with the gun is an easy decision. I am not sure if I like the Packmayrs better than the 500s but either one is better than the stock grips.

After today's USPSA match; I put a few 44 Magnum 240gn Federal rounds through it. I will definitely be reloading for 44 Special. The power is awesome!

Thanks. It gets hard trying to come up with different backgrounds on occasion.
Yes they were taken before I shot it the first time.
I recently bought some Fritz Bore Cleaner, on a whim, that I recently tried on the M69 & M629 cylinders, which had about 200 rounds since the last cleaning. I was amazed how fast, & easily, it removed the powder burns off the side of the cylinder & flutes. Even the heavy circular burn marks that occur from the top strap's screw hole, near the B-C gap, came off quickly. It says it's safe for stainless, blued, or nickeled finishes.
I did not specifically try it on the face of the cylinder, at the time, but as good as it worked elsewhere I'm confident it'd do a good job on it too. It's a milky looking liquid that lightly polishes the metal with the last buffing.

I use one of those rust and lead removal towels. Cut a inch square and go to town on the cylinder. The blacker it gets the better it works. Also, so far it has yet to polish out the bead blast finish on 69 and 627. The one I'm using now came from Midway for about $3.
