29-5 Classic Magnum II Unfluted 7-1/2" 44 Magnum
As promised here are some pics of the other long tube I traded into this week. This one is in the same condition as the 29-4 Classic Hunter but it was professionally drilled and tapped for the weaver scope mount. Blued, 7-1/2" barrel, unfluted cylinder, no lock. Mmmmm. Given this is product code 101256, 1 of 500, I didn't really care that it was drilled and tapped since the condition was excellent and it also came with the original box and tools. I will most likely remove the mount and install some discreet tap filler screws, and mount the factory rear sight back on. I've also been contemplating some decent rings and a Nikon 2x fixed pistol scope. Any suggestions are welcome.
Enjoy some of the pics, the blueing was gorgeous tonight during the sunset.

That's a great looking gun and nice pics too. You traded into two sweet guns!

(Soft. Low whistle) - that is one sweet looking gun. I'm a fan of the unfluted look. Think that's the first blued one I've seen though.

SVT---Beautiful Gun. Nothing compares to a BLUED gun.. NOTHING...
As for the rear factory sight... I'd be willing to bet 75vette's grocery
money it will cover the drilled/tapped holes of the scope mount..
lf l lose the bet he's good for it ;-)

Thanks everyone for the kind words. Luckily the rear sight will cover the tap holes so I'll be taking care of that this week. Just need to order a few filler screws. As far as the grips, I'm on the hunt for a pair of N Frame Square Combats for this 29-5, the 29-4, and the 25-9 I just got. I've also thought about patronizing Badger Grips for a few of their square N frame boot grips but I'm worried they aren't big enough to get a good grip.
Maybe I should look at the Spegels or Ahrends!
I must say that I have a soft spot for unfluted cylinders...I don't know what it is but they look phenomenal on Smith revolvers. Here are all three, I think I like the Classic Hunter the most.

Unfluted cyl
Some feel that the unfluted cyl look unfinished.
Myself I like the look of them.
Here's a photo of just a couple I have.
Both 29-4's the longer tube model and his little brother in the 5".
I'm still on the hunt for the 3" model that also came out in 1989.

Pete, thats a fine pair of 29's you have there. I too have been on the hunt for a 3 inch 29 but haven't had a lot of luck. When they do come up for sale, they are PRICEY. Last LNIB example on gunbroker went for like $2200+.
What's the product code for the unfluted 5 inch? Is it a limited mfd model?

I think the potentially "unfinished look" (although I don't see it that way) is infinitely more appealing than some of the other "unconventional looks" found in the odd barrel designs typically coming out of the perf. Center. But that's just me. And I don't mean to step any toes saying that.
As for grips, and you mentioning Ahrends, there's a fella who's had a pic up in more than a couple threads of a 586 with red-stain tiger maple grips that, to my eye, are an outstanding combination of blued gun and wood. ENTIRELY subjective, obviously. But i love, love, love that maple. Birds eye doesn't do the first thing for me. And I generally prefer stainless guns for my own utilitarian purposes, but damned if I don't want a blue gun now just to put that aesthetic combination together. Have fun putting some new shoes on her and post up when you do.

The unfluted cylinder requires the rest of the gun to have clean lines. Otherwise, it looks out of place. My example:

Vince,
Product code of 101249
Purchased this August of 2012 box and all.
Really didn't know what I had until I posted here on the forum.
Limited run of 500.
I guess you could say this one started the whole S&W buying/collecting spree
I've since changed out the rubber and put old school N-Targets on both.
I hope I can find the 3" before you since you've been finding some awesome deals lately.

Question - I'm about to install the rear sight back onto the revolver and when comparing it to the other sight on my 29-4 with 8-3/8" barrel it looks the same. Before I install it I wanted to confirm with others who have a 7-1/2" N Frame with white outline adjustable rear sights that this is the correct factory sight size.
Is the rear blade supposed to be .126, .146 or .160?
Thanks in advance
