Anyone here have a 986? I am curious how they shoot. Any recommendations?

Here's mine:
I use it for speed steel so the highest precision isn't necessary.
Hitting plates out to 20 yards or so really isn't very demanding.
986 is certainly accurate enough for me. Honestly, I've never even considered taking the time to work up extreme accuracy loads.
I have two 625s for that job.

They shoot good with the right ammo! I have about 1k rounds in my 986 and still looking out for whats best.
The biggest thing i would say if you're thinking about one IS getting used to the moonclips. I only mention this because some have their reluctance using them. I do not. Most other revolvers do not require moonclips but in 9mm this one and the 929 need them to fire reliably.
It is a good range gun and falls into that .

I used to have a Ruger sp101 and S&W 929 and sold both off as I couldn't get either to shoot accurate for me.
I recently purchased a 986 and like this one better. I think it just balances better. Despite some reload development, accuracy is decent but not "one hole" (yet).
That said, it's still not as accurate (for me) as my 686+ pro.
To be honest, while I think shooting 9mm out of a revolver is cool, and I love the moonclips, I think the 688+Pro has the edge in accuracy, balance (due to SS cylinder). The 686 pro also gives me a wider range of ammo options with/without the clips.
In short, while I do like my 5" 969 Pro, the jury is still out on this one.

You didn't say which length you were interested in. I really like mine.

I have been shooting static steel with mine for about 3 years now. Seems to be fine for what I do. I have been using a 160 grain round nose over 2.0 grains of hp-38 with Federal primers. I have a green fiber optic on it, extended firing pin, and the mainspring screw backed out about 1 1/2 turns to a trigger of about 7 lbs. It works for me.

I have them all - a family affair!! They are accurate but it'll depend on what distance you want.
