Default Pawn Shop 19-5

I can get this at $650, they were asking 7. It looks great but lock-up isn't real tight. A 19 is on my list (15,19,27 & 28) and this would be a shooter without hesitation. Given slight play when cocked would you consider this ill advised?

And I AM assuming the partridge front is original.

Thanks!
Eric

Does not sound like a good deal to me. Try $600. Condition of the bluing looks nice from what I can see. Prices do vary depending on where you live. The stocks on it sell for $100-$200 on ebay. Bob

The patridge (not partridge ) front sight is not standard for a Model 19 snubby, nor are the stocks (though as bananaman rightly notes, in good shape they fetch a pretty penny here or on eBay).

A touch of slop is normal for a S&W in lockup -- how much are we talking about here? Do you know how to function check a S&W revolver? If this one checks out, it's an okay price for a shooter, especially considering the stocks.

Thanks in more ways than one. I'm 57 and all my life I thought that front sight was spelled partridge, lol. I learn again!

Well, we'll see about the 19. I guess I'm not overly excited at the price. But I'll go back and give it a proper inspection, especially now that I watched the video that was shared in this thread. But you know, there's also a 13 (forget the dash, either -1 or -2) that is LNIB. But it was pricier than the 19.

I just pulled another 19-5 2 1/2" out of a pawn shop for $600 out the door. More than I usually pay and this was after I haggled a bit. Its here: Latest pawnshop rescue Model 19 2 1/2"

The patridge front sight on the one you are looking at throws me off a bit but if you like it I would not let it be a show stopper especially if you plan to carry the gun or otherwise shoot it a lot. Model 19/66's are wonderful all around guns.

Id go back and offer $550 to $600 out the door. These short barrel K Frames seem to keep climbing in price.

The gun should at least hold its value barring a lot of holster wear and you can probably have the original type front sight blade replaced if you want.

Regarding the Patridge front sight, there are some people who like it on a self defense/carry gun. If someone tries to grab it a quick jerk to the rear will most likely convince them to let go...while they stench the flow of blood from their ripped hand.

I'm not one of those advocates, just telling you a possible reason why that gun has that front sight. The other possible explanation is some folks just like the sight picture the square backed Patridge sight gives them.

Dave

I went back and did a more deliberate inspection, being armed from Hasbeen1945's video. The Model 19 was a no-go. Not only sloppy on full lockup but some front to back as well. But it was a good visit as now this 19 is totally off the radar and I got to meet the owner of this very large Gun & Pawn store. The Model 13 is a 13-1 with box & papers but too pricey. Without me even asking they dropped $100 off the price which brought it to $799!!

Thanks for all your help folks.
