School me on the 610
Came across a 610 locally.
4in barrel so my understanding is this is the "new" production not the original 1990-1992.
When did they stop making the newer 610s?
Approximate value if in good shape and has box, original grips, etc.
Anything specific to check out on this model to make sure its in good shape or just your basic revolver checks?
Thanks in advance.
Mike.

The 610 was first produced in 1989 (5" or 6.5" barrel), and then re-introduced as the 610-1 Classic in 1998, with a 6.5" barrel, then 610-2 MIM hammer and trigger, added 4" (3&7/8) barrel in in 2001, with unfluted cylinder.
In 2002, they introduced the 610-3 with IL, and in 2005 the 610 was discontinued from catalog (SCSW).
There was also a special production of 300 Lew Horton 610-2's in 3".
A variety of configurations from barrels of 3, 4, 5, & 6.5, rubber & wood grips, fluted and unfluted cylinders.
Highly desirable and pricey. See Gunbroker!

On gunbroker new in box 610-3 10 mm minimum bid is just under $1600. No bids at time I checked it.
I wonder how does recoil of the 10MM compare to shooting 357?

Great summation!
Only thing I would add regarding Gun Broker is check for those that actually sell - not those with ridiculous starting prices.
Additionally, S&W has dropped models only to reintroduce later. The 657 is one so while it might be slim - the 610 may not be totally DEAD!!
S&W much like James Bond - never say NEVER!! Anything is possible even though now with their bounty of pistols their producing some revolvers might 'return' - our fondest wish!!!!!

I've got a 610 no dash with the 6" barrel and it's a pleasure to shoot even with fairly hot hand loads. I shot a friends 310 a couple of times and it was a handful.

I would say standard 10mm maybe a little hotter than standard .357, althought I am comparing L frame to N frame as I don't have a .357 N frame. Little Less recoil than my .41 mag N frame, the 10mm is fun to shoot, enough kick to make you smile but not enough to bring any tears to your eyes. My 610-3 is one of my favorite revolvers to shoot, moon clips are fun just get enough of them to have a good bunch loaded before you get to the range and a good tool for loading and unloading them like the BMT.

If you don't buy it, you'll be sorry.

If you have the inside scoop on an 8 shot 610 coming out, I'm saving my pennies right now! I have my grail gun, a 646 (non PC) coming very soon, but who can resist a N frame that can shoot 40 & 10 (not me)!

I have a 610 4" and I love it. I also have a Glock 20. It seems like the 610 has a little milder recoil than the Glock. They are a great gun. I would buy it if I were you.

Highly unlikely to ever happen...the 10mm diameter case just can't fit in an N-frame cylinder/window 8 times.

10mm popularity is up, lots of new guns out chambered for it recently, ruger, sig, Remington, would be a great time to re release a 610, or an l frame version.

Yep .41 Mag and 10mm are hot right now. At least Ruger and Henry have figured this out. Wish S&W and even Free Dumb Group would figure this out too.

So the one I'm looking at is a dash 3. Comes with 100 moon clips JM grips and a fiber front post. Also includes all the original parts.
Would 1000 be a good price?

I was going to suggest $1200 as a starting point. I think if it's in good condition and has box, papers, and tools, that gun would go for $1600 to $1800 in the right market. Starting at 12, I would go to 14 or maybe 15 before bowing out.

Even a 7 shot N frame would be pretty sweet.

I got a 4" non-fluted some while back when IDPA said no more 5" revolvers. Shoots very nicely and is quite comfortable to shoot, even with full-power loads. I got mine for a song (around $500 used as I recall) but it was quite some number of years ago.

Well I was afraid of that might be the case. My fantasy gun was a 8 shot N frame 646!

Great idea! I wonder if that would be a hot seller?

Bought my 1989 610 w/5" barrel at a gun show in 2013 for $900 and that seemed like a lot at the time. Later that year I took two fine white tail does at 45yds within a few seconds. Both fell where the grazed. This is a fine weapon with the best balance of any N frame I own. Love that 10mm round!
