Default I don't have any idea where to post this.

I have been a member since 2012. 6/16/2017 was the first I have logged in since 2012. I may need some directions on where to go and how to do things. My wife bought a pistol for me between 1988 and 1994. I loaded it and stuck it in my sock drawer. We write all the information down when we buy a firearm and stick it in the safe. This is a 357 magnum with a 2.5 inch barrel. It is around 20 years old and has never been shot. We have it written down as a model 19-6. The serial # is BNA3872. I cannot find anyplace on the frame that says it's a model 19-6. There is a number on the yoke. It is either 076 or D76. The letters look like they were made with a center punch. Where would I find the model number? It is not under the grips either. If I have this post in the wrong spot I am sorry. Just let me know and I will move it to the proper place.

That's the right year for a 19-6, and I'll wager that's exactly what it is, but if you post a pic we can confirm.

S&W began stamping the model number on the flat of the frame under where the yoke closes some time LONG before your revolver was made. The serial number on yours should "officially" be on the metal bottom of the butt of the revolver. Sometimes the stocks or grips must be pulled to see but sometimes not. On a revolver of your vintage, the serial number is also going to be stamped under the model number -- on the frame flat that the yoke covers up when the cylinder is closed.

The BNA3872 suggests a 1992 production year, so it's about 25 years old.

If you open the cylinder in the frame cutout for the yoke you should find the serial number and underneath that "MOD 19-6" and it will be about as far down near the hinge as it can be stamped so you do have to look for it.

BTW, I am basing this on my 67-1 which dates to the same time frame as you model 19, so I am simply assuming that they stamped your revolver in a similar fashion as mine.
